CONFLICT RESOLUTION, PEACE, GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT
From the 11th to the 13th of July 2018, at the Royal Monastery of Yuste
This course will be carried out in collaboration with the University for Peace (UPAZ), located in Costa Rica; it is an academic institution dependant of the United Nations whose aim is to foster the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stimulating cooperation among peoples and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress in accordance with the aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations.
Its aim is to ensue the transfer of knowledge and favour the training of professionals at European as well as at Ibero-American level, fostering cooperation spaces between both regional contexts in order to incorporate knowledge and experience of both institutions: the FAEIY, with extensive experience in the European educational field, and the University Institute of Peace, in Latin America, specialised in training on this topic.
During the three day course, lectures and debate tables will be offered that will tackle, from a global perspective and including local practices, strategies to make progress in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 16: “to promote peaceful and inclusive societies and to provide access to justice for all” at European and Ibero-American level.
The topics on discussion are the following:
- Strategies to face the threats of global security.
- Peace-building in post-conflict settings.
- Democratic strengthening and human rights for the promotion of peace.
- The gender perspective in global security and the resolution of conflicts.
- Negotiation and mediation in conflict management.
