The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation collaborated in the organisation of the Symposium “La primera vuelta al mundo. Carlos V y Juan Sebastián Elcano” (“The First Round the World Trip. Charles V and Juan Sebastián Elcano”), held at the Imperial Palace in Vienna (Austria). In addition, the Foundation was part of the honorary committee along with the Spanish Embassy in Austria.
The event, included in the official activity programme of the National Commission for the commemoration of the “5th centenary since the first round the world trip expedition of Fernando de Magallanes and Juan Sebastián Elcano”, was organised by the Monastery of Yuste’s Royal Association of Knights along with the Austro-Spanish Society in Vienna and the Cooperation Network of European Routes of Emperor Charles V. The Spanish Ambassador in Vienna, Juan Sunyé Mendía, and the Head of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, Karl von Habsburg, also participated in the seminar.
The Symposium meant to celebrate the 500 years since the departure of the expedition led by Fernando de Magallanes from Seville to the Moluccas (the Spice Islands) and his return three years later under the command of Juan Sebastián Elcano, and it included the speech of renowned specialist professors from universities in Vienna and Graz (Austria), Amiens (France), Seville and Salamanca.
During the seminar, the participants of the symposium had the chance to taste different products from Extremadura, sponsored by Avante-Foods from Extremadura.
