This is the sixth edition of this seminar, conducted jointly by the University of Extremadura and the Rey Juan Carlos University. Starting from historical interest, but also taking into account the growing perception that the period of the transition to democracy has become an essential reference for our current political and social system, we intend to consolidate an annual meeting in Yuste, encouraging the reflection on this period of our history and review the changing perception on this issue up to today.

The main aim of the course is to analyze some of the major challenges confronting the European Union today. The conditions affecting the process of European integration following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty have been influenced by the protracted financial and economic crisis the leading global economies still find themselves in. Apart from purely internal factors, the EU´s position in the world has been reshaped by the convergence of new emerging actors on the international scene and by the tensions besetting the continent.

The present course seeks to analyzecurrent trends in European innovation strategies in digital health, e-health and education in the context of e-care; reflect on the role of the health professional in the digital model, on medical e-care and on training needs; learn about innovation and e-health projects, virtual platforms, and technological and educational resources for citizen empowerment in health-related issues; promote positive attitudes towards the use of ICTs in patient education and health literacy programs; test work approaches in multidisciplinary and multisectoral teams, and advocate strategies for promoting the sustainability of educational and socio-sanitary interventions.

Since the 1980s, the Holocaust has sparked increased interest in and studies on the past, with the aim of recognizing violations committed by human groups against other human groups. The acts of recognition, contrition and reparation which have been raised since then – and those that have yet to be raised – stir up a broad and intense debate. This debate, which under no circumstances can forget that memory is normally concealed, addresses among other issues the relationship between remembrance, memory and history.

Globalization has led to the emergence of multi-religious societies where minorities seek the recognition and exercise of their fundamental right to religious freedom in the host countries in which they establish themselves. This summer course will analyze the responses given within different legal systems and will seek possible solutions to some of the conflicts which have arisen in various countries in Latin America and the Maghreb. Religious education, the wearing of the veil in public places, religious dietary practices and assistance, cemeteries and places of worship, as well as interreligious dialogue.

The aim of the continuous training courses organized by SEMEG and SEGG is to update experts on issues related to differences in the diagnosis and treatment of adults and the elderly, both from a physiological and a pathological perspective. The present course will analyze the clinical, social and economic consequences of mistaking the difference between renal function according to age and renal insufficiency, a very common mistake among health professionals. Another current issue which will be covered is diabetes management in elderly patients, which differs significantly from the management of young diabetic patients.
