The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, the University of Extremadura (UEx), and the Centre for Research on Ibero-American Studies at Rey Juan Carlos University (CEIB-URJC) announce the 9^TH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON RELATIONS BETWEEN LATIN AMERICA, THE CARIBBEAN AND EUROPE, entitled “THE ROLE OF LATIN AMERICA AND EUROPE IN A WORLD AT WAR”, which will be held in Guadalupe (Cáceres) on 25 March 2026.

The objectives of this Congress are:

• To continue deepening the interaction that over five centuries has been taking place between the Americas and Europe.
• To prioritise research that studies this relationship, which has been shaping a historical reality in both regions, evidenced in a cultural and material heritage that is, in many cases, shared. On this occasion, the focus will be on aspects related to the environment, energy, and critical infrastructures in the two regions.
• To continue advancing studies on migratory flows between the Americas, Extremadura, and Europe.
• To increase debate between the two regions, highlighting above all the participation of young researchers in the fields of International Relations and the History of Ibero-America as a space reflecting the profound relationships between the two regions.

This edition of the congress forms part of the activities of the project “EU–LAC Cooperation in a Transforming World: Institutional Strengthening for Global Governance”, funded by the Extremaduran Agency for International Development Cooperation (AEXCID). The project aims to strengthen institutional capacities, enhance bi-regional political dialogue and promote strategic cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in response to an international context shaped by profound economic, social, technological and geopolitical changes.

The Her Voice project consortium is led by UNED (National University of Distance Education) in Denia (Spain) and includes partners from the University of Arts of Targu Mures (Romania); Gmina Miasta Sopotu (Poland); the Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine); the Usamborgia Cultural Association (Italy); Saldus Novada Pasvaldinba (Latvia); Podjetniski Inkubator Kocevje, Javni Zavod Za Podjetnistvoizobraževanje In Druge Dejavnosti (Slovenia); the Jean Monnet Association (France); and the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation (Spain).

The project consists of eight international events organised in the partner countries. It aims to engage directly over 400 participants and indirectly more than 25,000 people, with activities addressing key issues such as the promotion of women’s full enjoyment of their rights, gender equality, including work-life balance, women’s empowerment, the integration of a gender perspective, and its impact on sustainable development.

The project seeks to raise awareness and knowledge among EU citizens, focusing on social inclusion and the gender dimension, with the goal of strengthening citizen participation in general and fostering dialogue among different societal actors, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and democratic Europe.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, the Rafael Landívar University of Guatemala and the Centre for Research on Ibero-America Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University (CEIB) are organising the “8^th International Congress on Relations between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. Cultures and Identities in the Ibero-American Space: Spain’s Contribution”, to be held on 28–29 October 2025 in Antigua (Guatemala).

The objectives of this congress are:

• To continue deepening the interaction that has taken place over five centuries between America and Europe.
• To prioritise research that studies this relationship, which has shaped a historical reality in both regions, evidenced by a cultural and material heritage that is in many cases shared. On this occasion, the focus will be on cultural content and cooperation in this field.
• To further advance cooperation between Spain and the other countries of the Ibero-American space, giving priority this time to Guatemala, as a country of great importance within the Ibero-American context; and to continue conducting studies on migratory flows between America, Extremadura and Europe.
• To enhance debate between the two regions, highlighting in particular the participation of young researchers whose work focuses on cultural issues, with the aim of fostering a space of profound relations between the two regions.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, the Andean University of Cusco (Peru), the Bartolomé de las Casas Centre of Cusco (Peru), with the collaboration of the Research Centre for Ibero-American Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University (CEIB), organise the “6^th International Congress on Relations Between Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Sustainability and Human Rights: Advances in the Euro Latin American space”, which will take place on May 21, 2024, at the Andean University of Cusco (Peru).

The aim of these congresses is to foster the interaction that has been taking place between America and Europe over five centuries. Likewise, they seek to prioritise research that studies this relationship, which has been shaping a historical reality in both spaces, evidenced by a cultural and material heritage that is often shared. Additionally, they aim to increase dialogue between the two regions, highlighting the participation of young researchers in the fields of international relations and the history of Ibero-America as a space of deep relations between the two regions.

This activity is part of the School of Guadalupe, a knowledge and transfer programme launched by Yuste Foundation for reflection and research on History, Law, and International Relations. One of its goals is to contribute to academic, social, and intellectual development in the region and to provide the Ibero-American society with tools useful for socio-economic advancement, based on the historical relations between Ibero-American countries, the state of present links, and the pursuit of a common future.

Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste | From 18 to 20 July 2023

The current international context of great instability and uncertainty that chains social, political and economic crises, which in turn faces immense threats such as climate change, tests the ability of our societies to implement transformations that get to the root of the problems. Citizen activism, especially that promoted from the younger generations, is at the heart of the goal of collective claims and struggles for the construction of a sustainable, inclusive and human rights-respecting future.

From the new feminisms, demonstrations regarding climate, social platforms against poverty and precariousness or regarding the defence of refugees, among others, voice and visibility are given to the demands for social transformation in order to build a future that leaves no one behind, ensuring the sustainability of life and the dignity and rights of every human being as something indispensable.

International cooperation is also working to defend human rights at a border between the institutional, political and civil society sectors and NGOs.

This course is proposed as a meeting space and transfer of experiences and knowledge within the project funded by the Extremaduran Agency for International Development Cooperation: YOUTH AND HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISM.

The objective is to generate a platform to foster the training, support and connection of young activists who lead the social transformation, in order to amplify their demands, influence and impact on society, and for their messages to serve as an engine for change in order to generate a transformative public agenda that mobilises public opinion as well as decision-making.
