BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE<\/h2>\n

Charles V was born on 24 February 1500 in Ghent (Belgium). He was the first son of Joanna (daughter of the Catholic Monarchs) and Philip the Handsome (son of Maximilian I, King of the Germans). After his abdication, Charles V travels once again to Spain. The place chosen as his retreat is the Monastery of Yuste, in Extremadura. Carlos V built a residential palace annexed to the Monastery, decorated with tapestries and paintings by Titian.<\/p>\n

MONASTERY OF YUSTE<\/h2>\n

Even though the founding origins of the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste are found in the Chapel of San Salvador de la Sierra, located between Cuacos and Garganta la Olla, the first structure of the building that can be seen today dates from 1402; the year when the owner of the land between the streams Gilona and Vercelejo (also known as Yuste) cedes it so that the \u201cpoor life hermits\u201d could build a convent.<\/p>\n
