The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation inaugurates a new edition of the academic training programme \u2018Campus Yuste 2018\u2019 with the 9th Yuste International Encounters on Transitions, which will take place during the 15th and 16th of March, at the Royal Monastery of Yuste.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, the title of the event will be \u201cHistory Perspectives in View of the Challenges of the Present\u201d, where transitions towards democracy in Europe and Ibero-America and the different views of history in the face of current challenges will be focused on.<\/p>\n

These encounters allow us, on the one hand, to draw from the growing perception that transitions towards democracy have become an essential example of our current political and social system in Spain as well as in Europe and, on the other hand, allow us to establish an assessment of the perception there is on Transitions in Spain, Europe and the world itself. In this edition, other transition processes will be addressed and compared in Spanish history as well as in other European and Ibero-American countries.<\/p>\n

The seminar is jointly organised by the Yuste Foundation and the Present Time History Research Group of the History Department of the University of Extremadura and in cooperation with the County Councils ofC\u00e1ceres andBadajoz, National Heritage, the Regional Government of Extremadura, and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union.<\/p>\n

The seminar is divided into several blocks, where the Latin American transitions will be dealt with, highlighting the role and presence of the Spanish Government; European Transitions, focusing on the Eastern countries, analysing the consequences of the fall of the Berlin Wall; this historical period will, furthermore, be dealt with as far as the media is concerned.<\/p>\n

Some of the participants are: Mario Diaz Barrado, Director of the seminar and Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Extremadura; Luis Y\u00e1\u00f1ez-Barnuevo, former Secretary of State for International Cooperation; Encarna Lemus L\u00f3pez,Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Huelva; Alejandro Cercas Alonso, Co-Director of the Jean Monnet Module UE-Hope + of European Integration of the University of Extremadura, and Pilar Velasco, journalist at Cadena Ser.<\/p>\n

The course has limited space available which is why students will be admitted in order of registration. Tuition is free and accommodations shall be provided at the residence hall of Jarandilla de la Vera (C\u00e1ceres) for those who request it, where a maximum of 30 petitions will be admitted.
