His Majesty the King will preside over the Carlos V European Award ceremony on the 9th<\/sup> of May, coinciding with Europe Day, at the Royal Monastery of Yuste, in Cuacos de Yuste. This award is granted by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation to the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.<\/p>\n

Among other personalities, the ceremony will be attended by the Ibero-American Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan; the Foreign Minister, Alfonso Mar\u00eda Dastis Quecedo; the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, I\u00f1igo M\u00e9ndez de Vigo y Montojo; the Minister do Mar of the Government of Portugal, Ana Paula Vitorino and Carlos V Award winners of previous editions, such as Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez, Jorge Sampaio, Sofia Corradi and Marcelino Oreja. The President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fern\u00e1ndez Vara, and the former President of the European Parliament, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Gil-Robles, will also attend the event.<\/p>\n

Fifteen ambassadors from European and Ibero-American countries: Poland, Ireland, Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, United Kingdom, Finland, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary, Germany and Portugal, as well as other members of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste, such as Juan Carlos Rodr\u00edguez Ibarra and Manuela Mendo\u00e7a, will attend the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation established the Carlos V European Award in order to reward the work of people, organisations, projects or initiatives that have contributed to the enhancement of Europe\u2019s cultural, social, scientific and historical values with their effort and commitment as well as to the process of European construction and integration. This prize represents the spirit of the construction of a united Europe and its delivery coincides with the commemoration of Europe Day; this is thus an opportunity to assert the values of a united, solidary and committed Europe from Extremadura.<\/p>\n

The jury has wanted to give acknowledgement to a political career that spans a period of almost 25 years dedicated to the European Union and its institutions as guarantors of peace, democracy, human rights, equality, solidarity and the values it represents. The jury has also highlighted that in the different posts that Antonio Tajani has held in the European Parliament and in the European Commission, he has worked in favour of a more competitive Europe that guarantees an effective model of sustainable and strategic growth.<\/p>\n

The Carlos V European Award winners up until now have been Jacques Delors (1995), Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez (2000), Mijail Gorbachov (2002), Jorge Sampaio (2004), Helmut Kohl (2006), Simone Veil (2008), Javier Solana (2010), Jos\u00e9 Manuel Durao Barroso (2013), Sofia Corradi (2016) and Marcelino Oreja (2017).<\/p>\n

Twelve previous editions confirm that the Carlos V European Award has a consolidated and contrasted history that reaffirms Extremadura\u00b4s commitment in favour of the process of European construction and the values it promotes, highlighting the importance of such initiatives which originate from the civil society in favour of the union and collaboration of Europe\u2019s people.<\/p>\n

The 12th<\/sup> Carlos V European Award is the first called by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, an entity that originated from the merger between the European Academy of Yuste Foundation and the Extremaduran Centre for Studies and Cooperation with Ibero-America (CEXECI) and whose Presidency of Honour has been accepted by His Majesty the King.<\/p>\n

The ceremony of the 12th<\/sup> Carlos V European Award is supported by National Heritage and the Regional Government of Extremadura; it is sponsored by Extremadura Avante through its brand Alimentos de Extremadura and Canal Extremadura, and counts with the collaboration of Bodegas Ru\u00edz Torres, Iberdrola and Telef\u00f3nica.<\/p>\n

Investiture of Rebeca Grynspan as academic of Yuste<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ibero-American Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan, will also become a member of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste during the Carlos V European Award solemn ceremony, which will be presided over by His Majesty the King, who will deliver the medal to her.<\/p>\n

Grynspan, who will hold the Gabriela Mistral Chair, is the first personality from Ibero-America that will become part of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste, thus becoming the ninth academic female of Yuste. This investiture symbolises the conjunction of the Europeanist and Ibero-American vocation of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation.<\/p>\n

The Carlos V European Award ceremony will be broadcast live by Canal Extremadura TV, Canal 24 horas of RTVE and by Radio 5 of RNE.<\/p>\n
