The character and his actions have awaken diverse and mixed feelings. In the 16th<\/sup> century his personality already drew the attention of his contemporaries. Lucio Marineo S\u00edculo and Francisco L\u00f3pez de G\u00f3mara wrote about him, among others, and his actions did not go unnoticed to other historians of his time, such as Gonzalo Fern\u00e1ndez de Oviedo and fray Bartolom\u00e9 de las Casas. Literature, drama, poetry and music also immortalised Cort\u00e9s throughout these years. Even Miguel de Cervantes mentioned the \u201ccortes\u00edsimo Cort\u00e9s\u201d in Don Quixote<\/em> and recalled the \u201cgreat Hernando Cort\u00e9s\u201d in El licenciado Vidriera.<\/em><\/p>\n Miradas sobre Hern\u00e1n Cort\u00e9s <\/em>includes a series of critical studies that situate the main character in circumstances of his time; they highlight his skills as a soldier, strategist, politician and negotiator and they point out his mistakes and mishaps.
