The Royal Monastery of Yuste hosts the international seminar \u201cLatin American and the European Union Relations: a Renewed Political Alliance?\u201d, where the economic growth that different regions are experiencing\u00a0 and how this fact presents challenges from the economic and geopolitical point of view will be analysed from transdisciplinary approaches. It is in this framework that they are analysing how the relations between the European Union and Latin America are and how they may evolve.<\/p>\n
The Director General of External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura and President of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation\u2019s Executive Committee, Rosa Balas; the Ibero-American Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan; the Executive Director of EU-LAC, Paola Amadei; the Ambassador of El Salvador, Jorge Alberto Palencia and the Mayor of Cuacos de Yuste, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Hern\u00e1ndez, participated in the opening session.<\/p>\n
During her speech, Rosa Balas spoke about the relevance of organising this seminar at a moment when \u201cthe international context is so uncertain, where some accessions are cancelled and some agreements are rewritten; when realities we thought were solid are no longer so true\u201d. Europe and Latin America are a priority in their respective agendas and must \u201cgive an example of multilateralism and economic integration as opposed to protectionism and economic nationalism\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Ibero-American Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan, defended that several important messages be sent from the seminar. Firstly, that a call for \u201cthe revaluation of Latin America, not forgetting the challenges nor the strengths that we have developed throughout these years\u201d should be made from Yuste. On the other hand, Grynspan stressed the importance of defending and strengthening personal exchanges, highlighting academic mobility among students, teachers and researchers.<\/p>\n
Grynspan pointed out that the \u201creinforcement of the Atlantic Triangle\u201d is necessary as well, as is stressing and putting emphasis on the fact that both region should \u201ccommit to culture, diversity and multilateralism as fundamental elements to build a much more efficient multilateralism, so that our regions may have a say in such an uncertain global world\u201d because in order to \u201ccombat regressive utopias we need a different narrative\u201d.<\/p>\n
Jorge Alberto Palencia, Ambassador of El Salvador \u2013the country that holds the pro tempore presidency- invited the attendees of the seminar celebrated in Yuste to explore the common points that unite Europe with Ibero-America and not their differences, \u201cbecause what joins us is our main strength when reacting in the international scene\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Executive Director of EU-LAC, Paola Amadei, pointed out that the foundation she manages sponsors this seminar in Yuste because it is important to \u201ctake discussion, knowledge and training on Europe and Latin America to other places, far from the centre of power\u201d. The EU-LAC Foundation chose this seminar among more than a hundred proposals coming from Europe and Latin America.<\/p>\n
Among other experts and academicians, the former Finance Minister of Colombia and economist, Guillermo Perry; Argentina’s former Economy Minister, Jos\u00e9 Luis Machinea; the President of the Institute for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean (IPDAL), Paolo Neves; PhD in Political Science by the University Complutense of Madrid and holds a Master\u2019s degree in International Relations by the United Nations’ University for Peace, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Sanahuja Perales and the person responsible for the Oxfam Intermon Policy for Latin America and the Caribbean, Andrea Costafreda, are present.<\/p>\n
The international seminar \u201cLatin American and the European Union Relations: a Renewed Political Alliance?\u201d is organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation with the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and is sponsored by the European Union \u2013 Latin America and Caribbean Foundation (EU-LAC Foundation).<\/p>\n

El Real Monasterio de Yuste acoge hoy y ma\u00f1ana 'Las relaciones Am\u00e9rica Latina-Uni\u00f3n Europea en un mundo incierto, \u00bfuna alianza pol\u00edtica renovada?', un seminario internacional en el que se analiza, desde enfoques transdisciplinarios, el crecimiento econ\u00f3mico que est\u00e1n experimentando las distintas regiones, y c\u00f3mo este factor presenta desaf\u00edos tanto desde el punto de vista econ\u00f3mico como geopol\u00edtico. En este marco, est\u00e1n analizando c\u00f3mo se encuentra y c\u00f3mo se estima que evolucionar\u00e1n las relaciones entre la Uni\u00f3n Europea y Am\u00e9rica Latina.<\/p>
En el acto inaugural han participado la directora general de Acci\u00f3n Exterior de la Junta de Extremadura y presidenta de la Comisi\u00f3n Ejecutiva de la Fundaci\u00f3n Yuste, Rosa Balas; la secretaria general Iberoamericana, Rebeca Grynspan; la directora ejecutiva de EU-LAC, Paola Amadei; el embajador de El Salvador, Jorge Alberto Palencia; y el alcalde de Cuacos de Yuste, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Hern\u00e1ndez.
Durante su intervenci\u00f3n, Rosa Balas ha hablado de la pertinencia de organizar este seminario en unos momentos donde el \u201ccontexto internacional es tan incierto, donde algunas adhesiones se cancelan y algunos acuerdos se reescriben, cuando realidades que cre\u00edamos s\u00f3lidas ya no son tan ciertas\u201d. Europa y Am\u00e9rica Latina son prioritarias en sus respectivas agendas y deben \u201cdar un ejemplo de multilateralismo e integraci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica frente al proteccionismo y el nacionalismo econ\u00f3mico\u201d.<\/p>
Por su parte, la secretaria general Iberoamericana, Rebeca Grynspan, ha abogado para que desde este seminario se lancen varios mensajes importantes. En primer lugar, desde Yuste se tiene que hacer una llamada a la \u201crevalorizaci\u00f3n de Am\u00e9rica Latina, sin ignorar los desaf\u00edos pero sin ignorar las fortalezas que hemos desarrollado durante estos a\u00f1os\u201d. Por otro lado, Grynspan ha subrayado la importancia de apostar y fortalecer los intercambios personales, destacando la movilidad acad\u00e9mica entre estudiantes, profesores e investigadores.<\/p>

Asimismo, la responsable iberoamericana ha se\u00f1alado que es necesario el \u201creforzamiento del Tri\u00e1ngulo Atl\u00e1ntico \u201c, as\u00ed como poner el acento y el \u00e9nfasis en que las dos regiones deben \u201capostar por la cultura, por la diversidad y por el multiculturalismo como elementos fundamentales para construir un multilateralismo mucho m\u00e1s eficaz, para que nuestras regiones puedan tener voz en un mundo global tan incierto\u201d, porque para \u201ccombatir utop\u00edas regresivas necesitamos una narrativa distinta\u201d.<\/p>
Por su parte, Jorge Alberto Palencia, embajador de El Salvador, pa\u00eds que ostenta la presidencia pro tempore, ha invitado a los participantes en este seminario que se celebra en Yuste a que exploren los puntos comunes que unen a Europa y a Am\u00e9rica Latina y no sus diferencias, \u201cporque lo que nos une es nuestra principal fortaleza a la hora de reaccionar en la escena internacional\u201d.<\/p>
La directora ejecutiva de EU-LAC, Paola Amadei, ha se\u00f1alado que su fundaci\u00f3n patrocina este seminario en Yuste porque es importante \u201cllevar la discusi\u00f3n, el conocimiento y la formaci\u00f3n de las relaciones entre Europa y Am\u00e9rica Latina a otros lugares alejados de los centros de poder\u201d. La Fundaci\u00f3n EU-LAC seleccion\u00f3 este seminario entre m\u00e1s de un centenar de propuestas llegadas provenientes de toda Europa y Am\u00e9rica Latina.<\/p>
Entre otros, est\u00e1n presentes el exministro de Hacienda de Colombia y economista, Guillermo Perry; el exministro de Econom\u00eda de Argentina, Jos\u00e9 Luis Machinea; el presidente del Instituto para la Promoci\u00f3n de Am\u00e9rica Latina y Portugal (IPDAL), Paolo Neves; el doctor en Ciencias Pol\u00edticas por la Universidad Complutense y Master en Relaciones Internacionales por la Universidad para la Paz de Naciones Unidas, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Sanahuja Perales, y la responsable de Policy de Oxfam Intermon para Am\u00e9rica Latina y El Caribe, Andrea Costafreda, entre otros expertos y acad\u00e9micos.<\/p>
