the Mayoress of Navalmoral de la Mata, Raquel Medina; the representative of CEPAIM-Extremadura, Luis Barrera, and the councillor for Social Services of Navalmoral, Teresa Nuria Garc\u00eda, have presented the exhibition of the work carried out by students within the project \u201cThe European Union: a History of Values and Human Rights\u201d today at the Cultural Centre La Gota in Navalmoral. The exhibition will be open throughout the whole month of October.<\/p>\n<p>The sample of the exhibition, which consists of different murals worked on by approximately 200 students ranging from ages 10 to 11 from the schools in Navalmoral, explain what the European Union is, the integration process, the flags and languages spoken, as well as some of the most prominent monuments. The exhibition also includes a video where the students explain the work they have carried out in each mural.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, the Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has referred to the students as \u201cthe future of Europe\u201d, asking them, in the light of recent events and the current situation, to be the ones working to make \u201cEurope become an exciting project, when you reach adulthood, -he said- don\u2019t forget European values; what made us come together in a common project\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The murals are completed with the children\u2019s retrospective exhibition \u201cHaciendo Europa desde la infancia\u201d (\u201cConstructing Europe since Childhood\u201d), composed of a selection of 20 photographs kindly loaned by Europe Direct C\u00e1ceres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe European Union: a History of Values and Human Rights\u201d started off last year and its main aim is to awaken the interest of students to know the meaning of feeling European; to promote respect for human rights, strengthen European integration through the promotion of active citizenship, as well as the promotion of debate as far as the construction of Europe and the promotion of European values is concerned.<\/p>\n<p>The project is divided into several phases. During the first phase, the brochure \u2018\u00a1Vamos a explorar Europa!\u2019 (\u201cLet\u2019s Explore Europe!\u201d) and a map was given to the schools by the European Commission. In the second phase workers of CEPAIM-Extremadura organised a dynamic and participative talk in each class about values, such as peace, equality and tolerance, including experiences of refugees and immigrants. In the third phase the students visited the Royal Monastery of Yuste so that they \u2013as well as their teachers- could see the Palace of Emperor Charles V. Here they given a badge and a flag of Europe and they attended a video conference with the Delegate of the Foundation in Brussels, who explained the European integration process to them, the functioning of institutions, the importance of being part of the European Union and how the decisions taken in Europe may affect the citizens\u2019 daily life. La exposici\u00f3n permanecer\u00e1 abierta durante todo el mes de octubre.<\/p><p>La muestra, compuesta por distintos murales realizados por unos 200 alumnos de entre 10 y 11 a\u00f1os de los colegios moralos, explica qu\u00e9 es la Uni\u00f3n Europea, el proceso de integraci\u00f3n, banderas y lenguas que se hablan, as\u00ed como algunos de los monumentos m\u00e1s destacados. La exposici\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n incluye un v\u00eddeo en el que los alumnos revelan el trabajo que han hecho en cada mural.<\/p><p>En su intervenci\u00f3n, el director de la Fundaci\u00f3n Yuste se ha referido a los j\u00f3venes como \u201cel futuro de Europa\u201d, pidi\u00e9ndoles que ante los acontecimientos presentes y la actual situaci\u00f3n europea, sean ellos los que trabajen para que \u201cEuropa sea un proyecto ilusionante; cuando se\u00e1is adultos, -dijo- no olvid\u00e9is los valores europeos, lo que hizo que nos uni\u00e9ramos en un proyecto com\u00fan\u201d.<\/p><p>Los murales se completan con la exposici\u00f3n retrospectiva infantil \u2018Haciendo Europa desde la infancia\u2019, compuesta por una selecci\u00f3n de 20 fotograf\u00edas cedida por Europe Direct C\u00e1ceres.<\/p><p>\u2018La Uni\u00f3n Europea: una historia de valores y derechos humanos\u2019 naci\u00f3 el a\u00f1o pasado y tiene como objetivo despertar el inter\u00e9s del alumnado por conocer el significado de sentirse europeo y fomentar el respeto por los derechos humanos, reforzar la integraci\u00f3n europea a trav\u00e9s de la promoci\u00f3n de la ciudadan\u00eda activa, as\u00ed como el fomento del debate en torno a la construcci\u00f3n europea y la promoci\u00f3n de los valores europeos.<\/p><p>El proyecto se divide en varias fases, siendo la primera la entrega a los colegios del folleto \u2018\u00a1Vamos a explorar Europa!\u2019 y de un mapa por parte de la Comisi\u00f3n Europea. En la segunda fase, t\u00e9cnicos de CEPAIM-Extremadura organizaron una charla din\u00e1mica y participativa en las clases sobre valores como la paz, igualdad y tolerancia, contando con experiencias de refugiados e inmigrantes. La tercera fase consisti\u00f3 en la visita al Real Monasterio de Yuste para que alumnos y profesores conocieran el Palacio del Emperador Carlos V. Aqu\u00ed se les entreg\u00f3 una chapa y una bandera europea y asistieron a una videoconferencia con el delegado en Bruselas de la Fundaci\u00f3n quien les explic\u00f3 el proceso de integraci\u00f3n europea, el funcionamiento de las instituciones, la importancia de formar parte de la Uni\u00f3n Europea, y c\u00f3mo las decisiones que se toman en Europa afecta a la vida cotidiana de los ciudadanos.
