The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation presented the book El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, primer intelectual mestizo<\/em>, which offers a complete and polyhedral perspective of G\u00f3mez Su\u00e1rez de Figueroa, better known as Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and delves into the knowledge concerning his life and work, the magnitude of which made him be considered the first Ibero-American intellectual mestizo.<\/p>\n The Academic Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, C\u00e9sar Chaparro G\u00f3mez; the President of the Uni\u00f3n de Bibli\u00f3filos Extreme\u00f1os (Union of Extremaduran Bibliophiles), Joaqu\u00edn Gonz\u00e1lez Manzanares, and the bibliophile, writer, professor and essayist, Manuel Pecell\u00edn Lancharro, participated in the presentation of this monograph, which took place at the headquarters of the Uni\u00f3n de Bibli\u00f3filos Extreme\u00f1os (Union of Extremaduran Bibliophiles) in Badajoz.<\/p>\n In the like manner, the Councillor for Culture of the City Council of Badajoz, Paloma Morcillo and the Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno Pi\u00f1ero, attended the event.<\/p>\n This monograph \u201cleaves written testimony\u201d of the works carried out by excellent researchers and renowned specialists on the work of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega who participated in the scientific encounter that took place on November 2016 in Badajoz, which commemorated the 5th<\/sup> anniversary since the death of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega on April 1616 in C\u00f3rdoba (Spain). This figure, who was born in Cuzco, was the son of the Extremaduran captain from Badajoz, Sebasti\u00e1n Garcilaso de la Vega and the Inca princess Isabel Chimpu. He is considered \u201cAmerica\u2019s first biological and spiritual mestizo\u201d; a man between two worlds who knew how to assume and consolidate his two cultural heritages: the American indigenous culture and the European one.<\/p>\n The participants in this publication, coordinated by C\u00e9sar Chaparro and Jos\u00e9 Ignacio \u00dazquiza, are Juan Gil, member of the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE); Evangelina Soltero, from the Complutense University of Madrid; Jos\u00e9 Ignacio \u00dazquiza, Professor at the University of Extremadura; Jos\u00e9 Carlos Gonz\u00e1lez Boixo, from the University of Le\u00f3n; Mercedes Serna, from the University of Barcelona; Marta Ortiz Canseco, from the International University of the Rioja, and Carmen de\u00a0 Mora, from the University of Seville.<\/p>\n The Academic Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, C\u00e9sar Chaparro, pointed out that this publication is \u201can opportunity to acquire the most rigorous knowledge of the character and his work\u201d. He, furthermore, defended that the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation \u201cintends to be a promoter of culture\u201d with such publications; a culture understood as \u201ca cultivation of great values based on the assumption of wisdom, knowledge and ideas that serve as oxygen in our lives in a process fuelled by permanent dialogue\u201d.<\/p>\n El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, primer intelectual mestizo <\/em>is volume 2 of the book collection \u201cEntre dos mundos: Am\u00e9rica y Europa desde Extremadura\u201d, included in the editorial initiative of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation. According to C\u00e9sar, this collection picks up the institution\u2019s \u201cequally European and Ibero-American\u201d new sensitivity, as it aims to \u201cfoster synergies, looking for effectivity and mainstreaming in its actions in a global world, from an integrating perspective where no one is superfluous to consolidate the existing bonds between Extremadura, Europe and Ibero-America\u201d.<\/p>\n Manuel Pecell\u00edn analysed the life and work of the Inca and revealed aspects of the different works included in this book. Among other issues, Pecell\u00edn pointed out that the Inca, as a man of the Renaissance time, knew how to bring together pen and sword, \u201cbut that man who belonged to two cultures was more wooed by Baroque melancholy than by Renaissance impulses at the time\u201d.<\/p>\n The Inca Garceilaso de la Vega \u201cwas a man who was proud of his maternal ancestry, even exaggerating the Incas\u2019 greatness and nobility, as well as of his Spanish roots\u201d. Conscious of the Andean empire\u2019s shortcomings, which had no scripture, \u201che decided to issue in writing the true story of his elders\u201d. Este personaje, que naci\u00f3 en Cuzco, era hijo del capit\u00e1n pacense Sebasti\u00e1n Garcilaso de la Vega y de la princesa inca Isabel Chimpu. Adem\u00e1s, ha defendido que con publicaciones como esta, la Fundaci\u00f3n Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste \u201caspira a ser promotora de la cultura\u201d, pero una cultura entendida como \u201ccultivo de grandes valores que se basan en la asunci\u00f3n de saberes, conocimientos e ideas que sirven de ox\u00edgeno a nuestras vidas en un proceso impulsado por el di\u00e1logo permanente\u201d, ha a\u00f1adido.<\/p> \u2018El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, primer intelectual mestizo\u2019 es el volumen n\u00ba 2 de la colecci\u00f3n \u2018Entre dos mundos: Am\u00e9rica y Europa desde Extremadura\u2019 incardinada en la iniciativa editorial de la Fundaci\u00f3n Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste. Esta colecci\u00f3n recoge, seg\u00fan Chaparro, la nueva sensibilidad de esta instituci\u00f3n \"por igual europea e iberoamericana\", que tiene el prop\u00f3sito de \"propiciar sinergias, buscando, en un mundo global, la efectividad y transversalidad en sus acciones, desde una perspectiva integradora en la que no sobra nadie, para consolidar los v\u00ednculos existentes entre Extremadura, Europa e Iberoam\u00e9rica\".<\/p> Por su parte, Manuel Pecell\u00edn ha sido el encargado de pormenorizar la vida y obra del Inca, as\u00ed como relatar aspectos de los distintos trabajos del libro. Entre otras cuestiones, Pecell\u00edn ha se\u00f1alado que El Inca, como hombre del Renacimiento, supo unir pluma y espada, \"si bien aquel hombre de las dos culturas le rondaban ya m\u00e1s que los impulsos renacentistas la melancol\u00eda del Barroco\".<\/p> El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega \"fue un hombre orgulloso de su ascendencia materna, llegando a hiperbolizar la nobleza y grandeza de los incas, al igual que lo estaba de su ra\u00edz espa\u00f1ola\". Y consciente de las carencias del imperio andino, que no ten\u00eda escritura, \"asumi\u00f3 asentar por escrito la verdadera historia de sus mayores\".
