The work ‘Filosof\u00eda de la historia de Am\u00e9rica: los cronistas de Indias en el pensamiento espa\u00f1ol\u2019 (Philosophy of the history of America; the chroniclers of the Indies in Spanish thinking), by the Russian Natalia Korotkikh Denisova, has been the winner of the Fourth Research Prize for the Ibero-American Doctoral Theses ‘Fernando Serrano Mangas’, organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste with the aim of promoting and supporting scientific creations related to the Ibero-American sphere. This thesis elaborates a canon, catalogue or dictionary of the chroniclers of the Indies.<\/p>\n

Thirteen doctoral theses from the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of Extremadura (UEx), the University of Seville, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the University of Burgos, the University of Salamanca and the University of Pablo de Olavide in Seville were submitted.<\/p>\n

The jury, which was made up of professors Juan Carlos Moreno Pi\u00f1ero, C\u00e9sar Chaparro G\u00f3mez, Rosa Perales Piqueres, Elena Jurado M\u00e1laga and Sigfrido V\u00e1zquez Cienfuegos, after assessing the works submitted, decided to award the prize to the work in question and, due to the quality of the works presented, to make special mention of the theses entitled ‘Los archivos universitarios y nacionales en Iberoam\u00e9rica: un estudio ciberm\u00e9trico\u201d (University and national archives in Latin America: a cybermetric study), by the researcher from Extremadura Isabel Mar\u00eda Sanz Caballero, and ‘Ambrosio Sp\u00ednola y el ej\u00e9rcito de Felipe III, 1569-1621\u2019 (Ambrsio Sp\u00ednola and the army of Felipe III, 1569-1621), by Asunci\u00f3n Retortillo Atienza (University of Burgos).<\/p>\n

ABOUT THE AUTHOR<\/strong><\/p>\n

Natalia Korotkikh Denisova holds a PhD (with a distinction \u201ccum laude\u201d) in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid, a Master’s Degree in Advanced American Studies (International Relations) from the St. Petersburg State University, a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the Voronezh State University of Russia and a Master’s Degree in Tourist Engineering from the Universit\u00e9 Paris Est Marne-La-Vall\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Korotkikh Denisova is an honorary collaborator of the Departments of Logic and Theoretical Philosophy and Philosophy of Moral Law and Politics II of the Complutense University of Madrid.<\/p>\n

RESEARCH PRIZE FOR THE IBERO-AMERICAN DOCTORAL THESES ‘FERNANDO SERRANO MANGAS’<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was created six years ago with the aim of promoting and fostering cultural, academic, economic and technical cooperation. Since 2016, this research prize has been named after Fernando Serrano Mangas, historian, professor of American History at the UEx, expert in underwater archaeology and international authority of the so-called Carrera de Indias, who died in 2015 in full research maturity.<\/p>\n

The winning research will be published in the “Doctoral Thesis Collection”, created by the Yuste Foundation for this purpose.<\/p>\n
