This course continues the lines of analysis and studies of the YUSTE CAMPUS programme on the prospects and challenges of the European Union, its process of integration with Latin America, the economic situation in Latin America and the future of the Ibero-American Community. It will review current affairs in the framework of European Union-Latin American relations, creating a space for debate on current issues in this field, and will aim to debate and reflect on the redefinition of the welfare state and the social contract model in the sphere of relations between Latin America and Europe.<\/p>\n

We do so with the objective and as an essential and prior step that will enable us to identify how we must restore the sense of certainty, security and trust between the State and its citizens in order to build a fairer and more common future between the two Regions on both sides of the Atlantic.<\/p>\n

To this end, we will address issues that we believe to be essential relating to the strengthening of democracy, citizen participation, representative and participatory democracy, the defence and protection of human rights, the defence of workers and the security of access to decent and dignified employment, taking into account the changes that are taking place in employment, social protection and taxation and their effects on inequality, the fight for gender equality and the reduction of inequalities in general, the development of future opportunities for the youngest, the management and response to major current challenges such as demographic changes and movements, the protection of citizens, structural factors, including socio-economic changes and the situation of the middle classes in the region, and other factors such as the rise of new right-wing political forces, or citizen disaffection, which call into question open societies and the social contract that governs or is pursued in both regions.<\/p>\n

We will reflect on the redefinition of the Social Contract and how to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), contributing with training, analysis, reflection, debate and the search for solutions, and the transfer of knowledge, between academics, civil society organisations, experts and professionals specialised in the field of cooperation and people responsible for the implementation of SDGs in the public sector, to greater knowledge and study of strategies to move in that direction.<\/p>\n
