\nOver forty students from several European and Latin American countries attend the course \u201cThe Redefinition of the Social Contract in Latin American-European Union Relations: Current Responses to Global Challenges\u201d, which will open next Wednesday, July 3, at 09:00 am, at the Royal Monastery of Yuste; a course that takes place in the framework of the Campus Yuste programme.<\/strong><\/p>\n Students from Spain, France, Portugal, Cuba, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cape Verde, Italy, Honduras, Mexico, United Kingdom, Argentina and Chile will analyse the European Union\u2019s perspectives and challenges during three days, its integration processes with Latin America, the economic situation of the latter and the future of the Ibero-American community.<\/p>\n The attendees come from the following universities: the Complutense University; the National University of Distance Education (UNED); the University of Seville; the University of Manchester (United Kingdom); the Autonomous University of Madrid; the University of M\u00e1laga; Extremadura; Aberdeen (United Kingdom); Salamanca; Gronigen (Holland); Lisbon (Portugal); Santiago de Compostela; Rey Juan Carlos; Cantabria; Castilla la Mancha, Valencia; the Technical University of Madrid; the university of C\u00e1diz; Granada, and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris (France).<\/p>\n The course, which is organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and the Carolina Foundation, in collaboration with the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and the University of Extremadura, will reflect on the redefinition of the welfare state and the social contract model as far as the relations between both continents are concerned.<\/p>\n To this end, subjects such as the strengthening of democracy; citizen participation; representative and participatory democracy; the defence and protection of human rights; the defence of workers and the security of access to decent and dignified employment, taking into account the changes that are taking place in employment; social protection and taxation and their effects on inequality; the fight for gender equality; the development of future opportunities for the youth; the management and response to major current challenges, such as demographic movements and the protection of citizens, will be delved into.<\/p>\n Some of the speakers who will deal with this rich range of topics are: the politician, academician of Yuste and director of the course, Ram\u00f3n J\u00e1uregui; the President of the European Council for Latin America and the Caribbean, Peter Van de Velde; the director of the Carolina Foundation, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Sanahuja; the director of EsGlobal, Cristina Manzano; the adviser to the High Commissioner of the 2030 Agenda of the Spanish Government, Jorge Solana; the director of Planeta Futuro, Lola Huete; the programmatic director for Latin America and the Caribbean of Intermon Oxfam;
