A conference focused on rescuing important leading figures from Extremadura in the New World.<\/p>\n

ALONSO \u00c1LVAREZ DE PINEDA.<\/strong> Born in Aldeacentenera (C\u00e1ceres) in 1494, he was a sailor, explorer, and cartographer who carefully examined the Gulf of Mexico on demand of Jamaica\u2019s Governor, Francisco de Garay. His expedition completed the recognition of the Gulf coast and mapped around 800 miles, furthermore, refuting the idea of the existence of a sea route in its waters that led to Asia. It also verified that Florida was a Peninsula and not an island and made \u00c1lvarez de Pineda the first European to see the western coastal areas of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.<\/p>\n

DIEGO DE BOROA.<\/strong> Born in Trujillo (C\u00e1ceres) in 1585. He arrived in R\u00edo de Plata on 1 May 1610 and four years later is located in Guarambar\u00e9, Paraguay, in the company of father Bartolom\u00e9 Sa\u00f1a. From then on he began his pastoral work among the natives of the Jesuit missions. This Jesuit historian died in Paraguay on 19 April 1657.<\/p>\n

HERNANDO DE BUSTAMANTE.<\/strong> He was from Alc\u00e1ntara (C\u00e1ceres). He was a barber, surgeon, ship operator, treasurer and discoverer of the Strait of Magellan. In 1515 five ships sailed from the port of Seville under the command of the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan in order to find a maritime passageway to the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic. De Bustamante was one of the 18 survivors who returned to Seville on 6 September 1522 from the 265 sailors of the expedition.<\/p>\n

Jornada dedicada a rescatar importantes figuras de extreme\u00f1os en el Nuevo Mundo.<\/p>

ALONSO \u00c1LVAREZ DE PINEDA. <\/strong>Naci\u00f3 en Aldeacentenera en 1494. Fue un marino, explorador y cart\u00f3grafo que reconoci\u00f3 la costa del golfo de M\u00e9xico por encargo del gobernador de Jamaica, Francisco de Garay. Su expedici\u00f3n complet\u00f3 el reconocimiento de la costa del Golfo y cartograf\u00ed\u00f3 unas 800 millas, adem\u00e1s de refutar la idea de la existencia en sus aguas de una ruta mar\u00edtima a Asia. Tambi\u00e9n verific\u00f3 que la Florida era una pen\u00ednsula en lugar de una isla, y permiti\u00f3 a \u00c1lvarez de Pineda ser el primer europeo en ver las \u00e1reas costeras del oeste de Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana y Texas.<\/p>

DIEGO DE BOROA.<\/strong>\u00a0Naci\u00f3 en Trujillo el 25 de julio de 1585. El 1 de mayo de 1610 lleg\u00f3 al R\u00edo de la Plata y cuatro a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde se le ubica en la provincia del Paraguay, en el pueblo de Guarambar\u00e9, acompa\u00f1ando al padre Bartolom\u00e9 Sa\u00f1a. A partir de entonces inici\u00f3 su labor pastoral entre los ind\u00edgenas de las misiones jesu\u00edticas. Este historiador jesuita muri\u00f3 en Paraguay el 19 de abril de 1657.<\/p>

HERNANDO DE BUSTAMANTE<\/strong>. Era natural de Alc\u00e1ntara. Fue barbero, cirujano, armador, tesorero y descubridor del Estrecho de Magallanes. En el a\u00f1o 1515 zarparon del puerto de Sevilla cinco nav\u00edos al mando del navegante portugu\u00e9s Fernando de Magallanes con el objetivo de hallar un paso mar\u00edtimo hacia el Oc\u00e9ano Pac\u00edfico desde el Atl\u00e1ntico. . Entre los 265 marineros que compusieron la expedici\u00f3n, De Bustamante fue uno de los 18 supervivientes que regresaron a Sevilla el 6 de septiembre de 1522.<\/p>
