The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organises the conference, \u201cAmerican Memory. Recovering Leading Figures from Extremadura in the New World\u201d tomorrow, 12 December -in Trujillo (C\u00e1ceres)-, in order to enhance the visibility of leading figures from Extremadura who hold some relation with Ibero-America and whose actions has been significant as far as history is concerned, although their service may not be so well known.<\/p>\n

The opening of the session will be tomorrow at 10:00 am at the Plenary Room of the City Council of Trujillo (C\u00e1ceres), where the Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno Pi\u00f1ero, and the Mayor of Trujillo, Jose Antonio Redondo Rodr\u00edguez, will participate.<\/p>\n

The Senior Fellow Emeritus, Eustaquio S\u00e1nchez Salor, will give the conference, \u201cEl jesuita Diego de Boroa (Trujillo, 1585-Paraguay, 1657). Actuaci\u00f3n t\u00edpica de un provincial jesuita: pol\u00edtica y letras\u201d, where he will analyse the life and work of this leading figure from Trujillo, who carried out his pastoral work among the natives of the Jesuit missions till he passed away in Paraguay in 1657.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the History of Art Professor at the University of Extremadura, Rosa Perales Piqueres, will give a speech entitled, \u201cAlonso \u00c1lvarez de Pineda. Descubrimientos y primeros mapas de La Florida\u201d, where she will delve into the figure of this sailor, explorer and cartographer from Aldeacentenera (C\u00e1ceres), who examined the coast of the Gulf of Mexico to verify that Florida was a Peninsula and not an island. This made \u00c1lvarez de Pineda the first European to see the western coastal areas of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas and to draft the first map of North America.<\/p>\n

In addition to this, the comic, El relato de Hernando de Bustamante. La odisea de la primera vuelta al mundo<\/em>, by the illustrator from Extremadura, Roberto Mass\u00f3, will be presented in this session. This is the 8th<\/sup> volume of the book collection, \u201cExtreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa-Historieta\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

La Fundaci\u00f3n Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste organiza ma\u00f1ana, 12 de diciembre, en Trujillo la jornada 'Memoria de Am\u00e9rica: al rescate de extreme\u00f1os en el Nuevo Mundo', con el objetivo de dar visibilidad a destacados personajes extreme\u00f1os vinculados con Iberoam\u00e9rica cuya acci\u00f3n ha sido trascendente para el devenir hist\u00f3rico pero su labor no es tan conocida.<\/strong><\/p>

La jornada ser\u00e1 inaugurada ma\u00f1ana a las 10:00 horas, en el Sal\u00f3n de Plenos del Ayuntamiento de Trujillo, y participar\u00e1n el director de la Fundaci\u00f3n Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste, Juan Carlos Moreno, y el alcalde de Trujillo, Jose Antonio Redondo Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>

El catedr\u00e1tico em\u00e9rito de la Universidad de Extremadura, Eustaquio S\u00e1nchez Salor, ofrecer\u00e1 la conferencia \u2018El jesuita Diego de Boroa (Trujillo, 1585-Paraguay, 1657). Actuaci\u00f3n t\u00edpica de un provincial jesuita: pol\u00edtica y letras\u2019, en la que analizar\u00e1 la vida y obra de este trujillano que desarroll\u00f3 su labor pastoral entre los ind\u00edgenas de las misiones jesu\u00edticas hasta su muerte en Paraguay en 1657.<\/p>

Por su parte, la profesora de Historia del Arte de la Universidad de Extremadura, Rosa Perales Piqueres, impartir\u00e1 la charla \u2018Alonso \u00c1lvarez de Pineda, descubrimientos y primeros mapas de La Florida\u2019, en la que profundizar\u00e1 en la figura de este marino, explorador y cart\u00f3grafo de Aldeacentenera que reconoci\u00f3\u00a0 la\u00a0 costa\u00a0 del\u00a0 golfo \u00a0de\u00a0 M\u00e9xico para verificar\u00a0 que\u00a0 La\u00a0 Florida\u00a0 era\u00a0 una\u00a0 pen\u00ednsula\u00a0 en\u00a0 lugar\u00a0 de\u00a0 una\u00a0 isla, lo que le permiti\u00f3\u00a0 ser\u00a0 el primer europeo en ver las \u00e1reas costeras del oeste de Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Lousisiana y Texas y realizar el primer mapa de Norteam\u00e9rica.<\/p>

Adem\u00e1s, en esta jornada se presentar\u00e1 el c\u00f3mic \u2018El relato de Hernando de Bustamante. La odisea de la primera vuelta al mundo\u2019, del ilustrador extreme\u00f1o, Roberto Mass\u00f3, octavo volumen de la colecci\u00f3n \u2018Extreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa-Historieta\u2019.<\/p><\/div>
