The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation presented the comic, El relato de Hernando de Bustamante. La odisea de la primera vuelta al mundo<\/em>, by the illustrator from Extremadura, Roberto Mass\u00f3, which is the 8th volume of the book collection, \u201cExtreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa-Historieta\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n The comic narrates the story of the first circumnavigation of the world in first person by one of its main characters: Hernando de Bustamante, who was a barber and surgeon in the mission.<\/p>\n In this graphic work, Hernando de Bustamante is a guide to us in a trip marked by horror and courage, desperation and wonders. A trip with ships and men, who in their endeavour to arrive to the Island of Spices travelled around the world proving that it was round. It was an epic adventure full of complications.<\/p>\n The author pointed out that he had never written or drawn a historical comic before; he had to look for graphical references and real images to narrate the story of de Bustamante.<\/p>\n Mass\u00f3 went into detail regarding the production of this work, where he infused a tone of adventure. He thus focused on the voyage; \u201cthe history of everyday life\u201d; on what happened during the maritime navigation in those ships; on \u201cnarrating what isn\u2019t usually narrated to deal with subjects that are nor commonly dealt with\u201d \u2013i.e. with the adventure of having to face the unknown: illnesses and starvation.<\/p>\n This publication is included in the Foundation\u2019s editorial line which encompasses different collections already consolidated, such as \u201cPensamiento Iberoamericano\u201d, \u201cEntre dos mundos: Europa y Am\u00e9rica desde Extremadura\u201d; \u201cPliegos de Yuste\u201d or this one: \u201cExtreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa- Historieta\u201d.<\/p>\n The presentation of this comic has taken place during the session \u201cAmerican Memory. Recovering Leading Figures from Extremadura in the New World\u201d, held in Trujillo (C\u00e1ceres) this morning in order to enhance the visibility of leading figures from Extremadura who hold some relation with Ibero-America and whose actions has been significant as far as history is concerned, although their service may not be so well known.<\/p>\n THE AUTHOR<\/strong><\/p>\n The author, Roberto Mass\u00f3 (C\u00e1ceres, 1987), narrates and draws. His last publications are: Cadencia<\/em> (Fosfatina) and El ruido secreto<\/em> (Spiderland\/snake). He has exhibited at national level. He received a grant in 2017 for the programme, \u201cCreaci\u00f3n Joven\u201d, of the Youth Institute (Injuve) and another one from the Regional Government of Extremadura in 2018 addressed to Visual Artists.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n EXTREME\u00d1OS EN IBEROAM\u00c9RICA Y EUROPA-HISTORIETA<\/strong><\/p>\n The collection \u201cExtreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa- Historieta\u201d, published by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, intends to recover essential characters in the history that Extremadura shares with America. The comic becomes an enjoyable and entertaining means of expression in order to convey these snippets of our history to all types of public. The rigour in the construction of history and its most adventurous aspect is added to this, because the attempt is also to make the reader want to know more about the character and our history through this reading.<\/p>\n At present, eight volumes make up this collection. La odisea de la primera vuelta al mundo\u2019, del ilustrador extreme\u00f1o Roberto Mass\u00f3, octavo volumen de la colecci\u00f3n \u2018Extreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa-Historieta\u2019.<\/strong><\/p> Este c\u00f3mic cuenta la historia de la primera circunnavegaci\u00f3n al mundo, contado en primera persona por uno de sus protagonistas: Hernando de Bustamante, que ejerc\u00eda la profesi\u00f3n de barbero-cirujano en la misi\u00f3n.<\/p> En esta obra gr\u00e1fica, Hernando de Bustamante nos servir\u00e1 de gu\u00eda en un viaje marcado por el horror y el coraje, la desesperaci\u00f3n y la maravilla. El de unas naos y unos hombres que buscando llegar a la Isla de las Especias dieron la vuelta al mundo demostrando su redondez. Fue una aventura \u00e9pica llena de complicaciones.<\/p> El autor ha se\u00f1alado que nunca hab\u00eda hecho c\u00f3mic hist\u00f3rico; para armar este libro fue buscando referencias gr\u00e1ficas e im\u00e1genes reales como referentes para construir su historia.<\/p> Mass\u00f3 ha pormenorizado c\u00f3mo articul\u00f3 esta obra a la que quiso imprimir un tono de aventuras. Para ello, se centr\u00f3 en la traves\u00eda, \"ir a la historia de lo cotidiano\", a lo que ocurri\u00f3 durante la navegaci\u00f3n mar\u00edtima en esas naos, \"contar lo que no suele contar para ir a esas partes que no est\u00e1n tan relatadas\", a la aventura de enfrentarse a lo desconocido, a las enfermedades o al hambre.<\/p> Esta publicaci\u00f3n se incardina en la l\u00ednea editorial de la Fundaci\u00f3n que engloba a distintas colecciones ya consolidadas como Pensamiento Iberoamericano, Entre dos mundos: Europa y Am\u00e9rica desde Extremadura, Pliegos de Yuste o esta Extreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa- o Historieta.<\/p> La presentaci\u00f3n de este c\u00f3mic ha tenido lugar en el marco de la jornada 'Memoria de Am\u00e9rica: al rescate de extreme\u00f1os en el Nuevo Mundo', que se ha desarrollado esta ma\u00f1ana en Trujillo con el objetivo de dar visibilidad a destacados personajes extreme\u00f1os vinculados con Iberoam\u00e9rica cuya acci\u00f3n ha sido trascendente para el devenir hist\u00f3rico pero su labor no es tan conocida.<\/p> El AUTOR<\/strong><\/p> El autor Roberto Mass\u00f3 (C\u00e1ceres, 1987) trabaja con la narrativa y el dibujo. En 2017 recibi\u00f3 la ayuda para la Creaci\u00f3n Joven del Injuve y en 2018 la Ayuda a Artistas Visuales de la Junta de Extremadura.<\/p> EXTREME\u00d1OS EN IBEROAM\u00c9RICA Y EUROPA-HISTORIETA<\/strong><\/p> La colecci\u00f3n \u2018Extreme\u00f1os en Iberoam\u00e9rica y Europa \u2013 Historieta\u2019, publicada por la Fundaci\u00f3n Academia Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste, busca recuperar a personajes fundamentales en la historia que Extremadura comparte con Am\u00e9rica. El c\u00f3mic se convierte en medio de expresi\u00f3n amena y entretenida para hacer llegar a todo tipo de p\u00fablico estos retazos de nuestra historia.
