The Carlos V European Award includes grants addressed to researchers who are completing their PhD in any European country and who are working on their doctoral thesis. This topic is chosen by the winner of the Carlos V European Award. In this case it was the Italian professor, Sofia Corradi \u2013better known as Mamma Erasmus as she drove this mobility programme- who chose \u201cpeace and European values\u201d as the research topic.<\/p>\n The book includes a reflection made by Corradi on peace; a value she describes as \u201ca challenge, an achievement and a reward\u201d. The winner of the 2016 Carlos V European Award also states that \u201cit requires great maturity to actually attain and maintain peaceful coexistence\u201d and she vindicates the personal commitment with \u201cthe humble endeavour of prioritising peace, struggling for peace, and developing peace\u201d, because when wanting to achieve it \u201cpeace requires work, peace is a daily challenge\u201d. Lastly, Sofia Corradi considers that the Erasmus Programme is \u201ca working instrument of peace, a small pre-emptive contribution\u201d.<\/p>\n The book includes a preface written by Corradi that describes the evolution of the Erasmus Programme since 1987 till present time, where approximately five million people have been exchanged with the programme.<\/p>\n The contents of the volume cover different research areas, giving particular emphasis to the model and European values in a global world; the European Union\u2019s internal policies; the genesis in European values; the role of the Erasmus grants in the internationalisation of higher education; juvenile participation in European Union law; religious rights; the preservation of external frontiers; the policy of historical memory in the Union; external projection or the concept of Europe from a peripheral critical view.<\/p>\n The book is coordinated by the emeritus professor from the University of Salamanca, Jes\u00fas Baigorri and by J\u00fcrgen Elvert, Jean Monnet Professor for European History from the University of Cologne (Germany) and has been published by the prestigious publisher of scientific works, Peter Lang.<\/p>\n These research works have had the support of the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Extremaduran Agency for International Development Cooperation\u2019s (AEXCID), the Italian Embassy in Spain, the Extremaduran Assembly, the Provincial Councils of C\u00e1ceres and Badajoz, the University of Extremadura, the Socio-Economic Governance and European Identity Network (SEGEI) and National Heritage.<\/p>\n The book will be presented on 30 January 2020<\/strong> during an academic event at the Office of the European Parliament in Italy (Rome), where the authors, researchers as well as the editors of the book and Sofia Corradi \u2013Mamma Erasmus- herself, will participate. The latter will deliver the main keynote address of the event. The Director of the Office of the European Parliament in Rome and the Spanish Ambassador in Italy will also attend the event.<\/p>\n Researchers from diverse nationalities participate in this publication. The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation published the book, Peace and European Values as a Potential Model for Integration and Progress in a Global World,<\/em>\u00a0which includes the contributions presented by PhD students who were awarded a \u201cCarlos V European Award- Sofia Corradi European Research and Mobility Grant for European Studies\u201d, at the doctoral seminar held between the 24th<\/sup> and the 26th<\/sup> July 2017 in Yuste (C\u00e1ceres).
