The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organises the webinar “The Imperial Project of Charles V and the Spiceries” on Thursday 25 June at 18:00 pm, where Professor of American History at Pablo de Olavide University in Seville, Juan Marchena; the President of the Puerta de Am\u00e9rica Foundation, Juan Antonio Manzano, and the Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno, will participate.<\/strong><\/p>\n When commemorating the 5th<\/sup> centenary of the first circumnavigation to the Earth, Yuste Foundation wishes to delve into those decades, between the end of the 15th<\/sup> and the beginning of the 16th<\/sup> century, with this webinar; a time when “the concept of the world, not only geographically, but also economically, socially, ideologically, religiously\u2026 changed dramatically. As never before in any historical moment, thirty years, 1490-1520, that changed the world, “as Professor Marchena states.<\/p>\n “When business and politics shook hands, in financing the construction of the greater Europe of monarchies that was emerging from the sources of the Renaissance in the early 16th<\/sup> century, the search for the sources of wealth that sustained them became consubstantial with their own existence. It was then, between 1516 and 1520, that a young Charles V designed a great imperial project based on the construction of a new world, a vast ocean of business, which would allow him to establish himself and consolidate himself as lord and rector of the new Christianity, and in which spiceries were the main engine, “explains Juan Marchena.<\/p>\n It is here, analyses Professor Marchena, “when the great transformation from the old time to the new begins: from merchants to financiers, from sailors to navigators, from astronomers to cosmographers, from adventurers to businessmen, from serfs to captains of honour, fame and wealth”.<\/p>\n The how, where, why and by whom, are answers that will be set forward by Professor of American History, Juan Marchena, after carrying out new research in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian archives on the process of European expansion.<\/p>\n The president of Puerta de Am\u00e9rica Foundation, Juan Antonio Manzano, will speak of the greatest maritime feat in history: the expedition of Magellan and Elcano, which was the empirical proof that the Earth is round.<\/p>\n He will tell us how Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda was like when it saw the five ships (the Trinidad, the Victoria, the Conception, the Santiago and the San Antonio), commanded by Ferdinand Magellan, depart on September 20, 1519 and saw the Victoria return on September 6, 1522, commanded by Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano after completing the first round the world voyage, in what was the transition from the Middle Ages to Modernity.<\/p>\n This webinar is part of Euro-Ibero-American Tribune, a programme launched by the foundation so that Extremadura\u2019s university students may complete their training with contributions made by experts in different social, economic, cultural fields, etc.<\/p>\n On this occasion, it broadens its target audience and can register all those interested in this historical issue. circunnavegaci\u00f3n a la Tierra, la Fundaci\u00f3n Yuste quiere con este webinar profundizar en esas d\u00e9cadas, entre finales del siglo XV y principios del XVI, cuando \u201cla concepci\u00f3n del mundo, no solo en lo geogr\u00e1fico sino tambi\u00e9n en lo econ\u00f3mico, lo social, lo ideol\u00f3gico, lo religioso... cambi\u00f3 dr\u00e1sticamente. Como nunca en otro momento hist\u00f3rico, fueron treinta a\u00f1os, 1490-1520, que cambiaron el mundo\u201d, como adelanta el profesor Marchena.<\/p> \u201cCuando negocio y pol\u00edtica se dieron la mano, en la financiaci\u00f3n de la construcci\u00f3n de la gran Europa de las monarqu\u00edas que estaba surgiendo de las fuentes del Renacimiento a inicios del siglo XVI, la b\u00fasqueda de las fuentes de riqueza que las sostuvieran se volvi\u00f3 consustancial con su propia existencia. Es entonces, entre 1516 y 1520, cuando un joven Carlos V dise\u00f1\u00f3 un gran proyecto imperial basado en la construcci\u00f3n de un mundo nuevo, un vasto oc\u00e9ano de negocios, que le permitir\u00eda establecerse y consolidarse como se\u00f1or y rector de la nueva cristiandad, y en el cual las especias constitu\u00edan el motor principal\u201d, explica Juan Marchena.<\/p> Es aqu\u00ed, analiza el profesor Marchena, \u201ccuando empieza la gran transformaci\u00f3n del viejo tiempo al nuevo: de comerciantes a financistas, de marineros a navegantes, de astr\u00f3nomos a cosm\u00f3grafos, de aventureros a hombres de empresa, de siervos sometidos a capitanes de honra, fama y riquezas\u201d.<\/p> El c\u00f3mo, el d\u00f3nde, el porqu\u00e9 y por qui\u00e9nes ser\u00e1n respuestas que ofrecer\u00e1 el catedr\u00e1tico de Historia de Am\u00e9rica Juan Marchena despu\u00e9s de realizar nuevas investigaciones en torno al proceso de expansi\u00f3n europea, en archivos espa\u00f1oles, portugueses e italianos.<\/p> Por su parte, el presidente de la Fundaci\u00f3n Puerta de Am\u00e9rica, Juan Antonio Manzano, hablar\u00e1 de la mayor haza\u00f1a mar\u00edtima de la historia, la expedici\u00f3n de Magallanes y Elcano, que supuso la comprobaci\u00f3n emp\u00edrica de que la Tierra es redonda.<\/p> Detallar\u00e1 c\u00f3mo era la Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda que vio partir el 20 de septiembre de 1519 a las cinco naos al mando de Fernando de Magallanes (Trinidad, Victoria, Concepci\u00f3n, Santiago y San Antonio) y vio regresar, el 6 de septiembre de 1522, a la nao Victoria, comandada por Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano, tras completar la primera vuelta al mundo, en lo que fue el tr\u00e1nsito de la Edad Media a la Modernidad.<\/p> Este webinar se inscribe en Tribuna Euro-Iberoam\u00e9rica, programa puesto en marcha por la fundaci\u00f3n para que los universitarios extreme\u00f1os puedan completar su formaci\u00f3n con las aportaciones realizadas por expertos en distintos \u00e1mbitos sociales, econ\u00f3micos, culturales, etc.<\/p> En esta ocasi\u00f3n, ampl\u00eda sus destinatarios y pueden inscribirse todas las personas interesadas en esta cuesti\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica.
