The General Director of External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Rosa Balas, opened the course \u201cIberian and Transatlantic Cultural Dialogues. Identities in Contact\u201d this Tuesday by videoconference. The course has been organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation along with the Directorate General for External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During her speech, Balas recalled that Yuste Foundation is an institution that has Europe and Ibero-America as fields of action, which encourages the holding of forums in which “the historical and cultural references that have fostered the existence of the Ibero-American community take centre stage”.<\/p>\n

In the inauguration, the Rector of the University of \u00c9vora, Ana Freitas; the Rector of the University of Extremadura, Antonio Hidalgo, as well as the Director of the course, Antonio S\u00e1ez, professor at the University of \u00c9vora and specialist in cultural and literary relations in the Iberian sphere, have participated.<\/p>\n

Balas explained that the organisation of this course is due to the firm commitment of Spain and Portugal to strengthen ties, “because it is necessary to travel through the relations that both countries have established, on both sides of the Atlantic, in all areas and specifically in cultural areas”. She, therefore, referred to the willingness of both institutions to give continuity to this seminar in order to “consolidate cross-border cooperation between both countries and that there be a cultural rapprochement between all the countries that make up the Ibero-American community,” she said.<\/p>\n

The General Director pointed out that currently about 800 million people speak Spanish and Portuguese, “two intercomprehensible languages” that, although they may have been back to back, this course will show that “they have always had contacts, ties and mutual influences”, she affirmed.<\/p>\n

The almost 300 students enrolled in this course, which will last until next Saturday, October 3, come from different countries in Europe, such as Belgium, France, Portugal and Italy; from Latin America, such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico or Peru, and the United States.<\/p>\n
