The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has organised the webinar \u201cWorld Heritage Site. Exceptional Cultural, Historical and Architectural Values of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe\u201d to be held next Wednesday, 16 December at 17.30 pm. This webinar will close the cycle of meetings \u201cGuadalupe Destino\u201d and will also serve to close the \u00ab25th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO\u00bb.<\/p>\n

The speakers will be the Vice President and Regional Minister of Finance and Public Administration of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Pilar Blanco-Morales Limones, who in turn is President of the Inter-administrative Committee that coordinates actions to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since February 2020; the Mayor of Guadalupe, Felipe S\u00e1nchez Barba and the former Director-General of UNESCO between 1987-1999 and member of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste since 2008, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, who will give the keynote speech.<\/p>\n

Mayor Zaragoza will deal with the exceptional cultural, historical and architectural values of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe, a World Heritage Site since 1993.<\/p>\n

In 1972, UNESCO established the Declaration of \u201cNatural and Tangible World Heritage\u201d in order to safeguard on a world scale the heritage which, because of its uniqueness, is the outstanding fruit of the creative capacity of human beings and the legacy that will be demanded by future generations.<\/p>\n

The former Director-General will tour the history of this world declaration by incorporating the \u201cCultural and Natural Landscape” and “Intangible Heritage”. Finally, Mayor Zaragoza will offer his vision on this seal in the 21st century, which, in his opinion, “will be the century of the peoples living in peace and dedicating means to the quality of life”.<\/p>\n

On 2 August, 2020, the \u00abHoly Year of Guadalupe 2021\u00bb began with the opening of the \u201cPuertas del Perd\u00f3n\u201d (Gates of Forgiveness), which is awaiting its recognition as an event of exceptional public interest. The main objective of this event, is to promote and energise local culture and tourism, through the recovery, valuation and dissemination of cultural heritage, the promotion of religious initiatives as a way of pilgrimage and the strengthening of ties with Ibero-America.<\/p>\n
