<\/a><\/p>\nThe European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation is organising the I International Congress \u201cRelations Between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean: A Meeting Space\u201d along with the University of Extremadura, the Centre for Ibero-American Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University, the City Council of Guadalupe and the Franciscan Community, which will be held between 18 and 20 March in Guadalupe. <\/strong>(25\/02\/2021)<\/p>\n This meeting of experts will be organised in a hybrid way, in face-to-face-virtual mode, due to the current health situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in such a manner that some presentations will be carried out in person from Guadalupe, while others will be online.<\/p>\n The congress will be opened by the General Director of External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Rosa Balas Torres; the Rector of the University of Extremadura, Antonio Hidalgo Garc\u00eda; the Mayor of Guadalupe, Felipe S\u00e1nchez Barba; the Director of the Congress, Professor of Public International Law and International Relations and Director of the Centre for Ibero-American Studies (CEIB) at the Rey Juan Carlos University, C\u00e1stor D\u00edaz Barrado, and the Guardian and Custodian of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe, Friar Guillermo Cerrato Chamizo.<\/p>\n The keynote address, entitled \u201cNecessary Agreements for the Recovery of Latin America\u201d, will be face-to-face and will be delivered by the academic of Yuste, Stefan Zweig Chair, and President of Euroamerica Foundation, Ram\u00f3n J\u00e1uregui Atondo.<\/p>\n Some of the topics to be discussed during the three days, when papers will be presented and round tables will be held, are: the uncertain future of the bi-regional European Union-Latin America partnership; the history of relations between Europe and Latin America at different times in history; or the main values of the summits between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).<\/p>\n The papers, presented by young researchers, doctoral students and doctors who presented their work in an open call by the Foundation, will also address the Mercosur-European Union trade agreement; the exchange of cultural knowledge between the two parts of the world; cooperation; the role of Extremadura as a bridge between Europe and Ibero-America; the artistic legacy in these parts of the world; the women of the Spanish exile; and the triangular relationship between Portugal, the European Union and Latin America, among other issues.<\/p>\n The main objectives of this first congress are: to delve into the interaction that has been taking place between Europe and America for five centuries of joint history and to prioritise in the investigations that have studied this relationship, which has been shaping a historical reality in both spaces. In addition, recent data from studies on migration flows between Extremadura, Europe and America will be presented. All this in order to lay out a space for debate with the fundamental premise of the participation of young researchers in the field of Ibero-American history as a space for international historical relations.<\/p>\n In addition to the presentation of papers and conferences, the Research Prize to Ibero-American Doctoral Theses will be delivered on the last day of the congress. Its winner will be announced a few days before the event. After the ceremony and presentation of the winning thesis, the congress will close with the assistance of the Ibero-American General Secretary and member of the Academy of Yuste, Gabriela Mistral Chair, Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis; the President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fern\u00e1ndez Vara; the Mayor of Guadalupe, Felipe S\u00e1nchez Barba, and Friar Guillermo Cerrato Chamizo.<\/p>\n The organising committee of the congress is led by C\u00e1stor D\u00edaz Barrado. The coordinators are Sigfrido V\u00e1zquez Cienfuegos, Professor of American History at the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature at the University of Extremadura, and the Professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the Rey Juan Carlos University, Sagrario Mor\u00e1n Blanco.<\/p>\n The congress is part of the activities included in the action plan of the “Holy Year of Guadalupe 2021”, an event of exceptional public interest, and counts with the collaboration of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).<\/p>\n Due to the limited time to develop the programme of the congress, 16 papers have been selected and will be presented during its three-day duration, although all the papers sent will be available on Yuste Foundation\u2019s website as well as that of \u201cGuadalupe Destino\u201d.
