and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Rosa Balas Torres, opened the I International Congress \u201cRelations Between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean: A Meeting Space\u201d on Thursday<\/strong> (18\/03\/2021).<\/p>\nThis congress is held from today until 20 March in Guadalupe. It has been organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation along with the University of Extremadura (UEx) and Centre for Ibero-American Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University.<\/p>\n
The Vice-Rector of University Extension of the UEx, Juan Carlos Iglesias Zoido; the Mayor of Guadalupe, Felipe S\u00e1nchez Barba, and the guardian and custodian of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe, Friar Guillermo Cerrato Chamizo, also participated in this event.<\/p>\n
The Director-General has stressed the importance of reinventing oneself and setting priorities so that no one is left behind. “Despite having lost presence and physical contact due to the global pandemic we suffer, we have managed to implement virtual systems, which have served us to gain connectivity, in spite distances and latitudes\u201d, she assured.<\/p>\n
In this manner, Yuste Foundation has adapted its programming to a digital version in order to keep delving into the knowledge of the European construction project and to continue building bridges on both sides of the Atlantic.<\/p>\n
Thus, this international congress has adjusted and extended the hours of the activities, “which has resulted in the registration of more than 300 people from almost thirty Ibero-American countries, ten European countries, in addition to the United States and Malawi”, Balas Torres explained.<\/p>\n
The Director-General recalled at the opening of the Congress that during Holy Week of 1486, Christopher Columbus arrived to the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe to meet the Catholic Monarchs and tell them about the epic he wanted to undertake and seeking funding for his trip to the Indies. “Since then, \u2212she said\u2212 Guadalupe has developed a spiritual, scientific and toponymic umbilical cord with America”.<\/p>\n
Later, Charles V, the emperor-king who dreamed of a united Europe 500 years ago, “also chose Extremadura, Yuste specifically, to live his last years; our region, therefore, carries its European identity and its American vocation in the secular sediment “, Rosa Balas explained.<\/p>\n
This meeting of experts is organised in a hybrid way, combining a face-to-face and a virtual modality. In this manner, a small number of speakers, the managing team of the congress and some institutional representatives will participate from the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe, and the rest of participants will do so in a telematic way.<\/p>\n
The I International Congress \u201cRelations Between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean: A Meeting Space\u201d, counts with the collaboration of the University of Extremadura (UEx), the Centre for Ibero-American Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University, the City Council of Guadalupe and the Franciscan community of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe, as well as the Ibero-American General Secretariat.<\/p>\n
