On Monday, the president of Regional Government of Extremadura and the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Guillermo Fern\u00e1ndez Vara, advocated “understanding the role we must play from Spain and also from the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste, better than ever; that of serving as a bridge between the European Union and Latin America”. <\/strong>(19\/07\/2021)<\/p>\n

The head of the regional executive has expressed himself in this manner at the opening of the Campus Yuste virtual course, \u201cThe European Union-Latin American and the Caribbean Relations: A Renewed Agenda and a Programme for Recovery under the SDGs\u201d, which is organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and EU-LAC Foundation, and is framed in the programming of the international summer\/autumn courses of Campus Yuste, within the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe.<\/p>\n

In the course of this event, Fern\u00e1ndez Vara pointed out that “we have a lot of work to do together”, as he highlighted the current need to value “coexistence based on respect, tolerance, inclusion, ecology and sustainability”.<\/p>\n

As he has emphasised “from the standpoint of everything that the great changes that are taking place in the world mean and represent in this new revolution of the 21st century,” which the “best answer” for depends on “talent, coexistence, knowledge and the ability we have to put natural resources and lifelong learning at the service of equal opportunities,” he asseverated.<\/p>\n

A SEARCH FOR COMMON SPACES<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the other hand, Fern\u00e1ndez Vara referred to the consequences of Trump\u2019s administration, which “broke confidence in the goodness of dialogue as a great instrument for overcoming obstacles”.<\/p>\n

Thus, he continued, “it is that recovery of the necessary dialogue between civilizations, cultures, peoples and territories that makes it possible to pool the problems”, as well as “their diagnosis and treatment”. This is, he explained, what “we humbly try to do in Campus Yuste”, in collaboration with other institutions, “doing our bit in the necessary search for common spaces”.<\/p>\n

In addition, the head of the regional executive appealed to the need for “vaccines for everyone”, because “if the virus becomes strong anywhere it ends up returning, exerting a devastating effect against the whole of society again”.<\/p>\n

“It is now with the advance of the vaccine, when we must consider the most cross-cutting objective in the Sustainable Development Goals, life, that great goal where we have to fight from to achieve a better and fairer future”, he concluded.<\/p>\n
