The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has called for the 15th<\/sup> edition of the Carlos V European Award, which means that from tomorrow and until 28 February the deadline is open to submit nominations for people, organisations, projects or initiatives that have contributed, with their effort and dedication, to the general knowledge and enhancement of the cultural, social, scientific and historical values of Europe, as well as to the process of European construction and integration.<\/strong>(20\/01\/2022)<\/p>\n

The solemn ceremony of the Carlos V European Award, which is celebrated around Europe Day at the Royal Monastery of Yuste, becomes an act of State supported by the Royal House and by King Felipe VI, who holds the honorary presidency of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation. This institutional act brings together European and Ibero-American personalities and turns Yuste into the focus and epicentre of Europeanism.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the call, published today in the Official Journal of Extremadura (DOE), includes the requirements set out, where the novelty this year is that they allow any citizen or institution to submit nominations with the aim of giving greater prominence and participation to citizens, thus making them an active subject in this Award.<\/p>\n

Nominations will be formalised by sending the official form published on Yuste Foundation\u2019s website: https:\/\/www.fundacionyuste.org\/en\/the-european-carlos-v-award\/convocatoria-2022\/<\/a>\u00a0and they must include an accrediting memory of the merits of the proposed person or entity. In addition, any documents that provide relevant and additional information on the nomination, as well as other support, may be attached.<\/p>\n

The award is endowed with 30,000 euros. The person or institution awarded, when accepting the award, must undertake to attend the award ceremony, as well as to participate in the European Doctoral Seminar, which will be held under his\/her\/its name at the Royal Monastery of Yuste.<\/p>\n

Yuste Foundation awarded the first Carlos V European Award to Jacques Delors in 1995, which was subsequently awarded to Wilfried Martens; Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez; Mijail Gorbachov; Jorge Sampaio; Helmut Kohl; Simone Veil; Javier Solana; Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dur\u00e3o Barroso; Sofia Corradi; Marcelino Oreja; Antonio Tajani; the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and Angela Merkel.<\/p>\n

RESEARCH GRANTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Carlos V European Award is linked to a work of analysis and reflection as it includes the provision of ten Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies addressed to researchers who are preparing a doctoral thesis. The topic of these European grants is adapted in each edition to a proposal made by the laureate. The researchers selected in each edition participate in the Carlos V European Award Doctoral Seminar, which is organised by Yuste Foundation.<\/p>\n

So far, more than a hundred researchers from all over Europe and from non-European countries such as Morocco, Brazil and Cuba have benefited from these grants.<\/p>\n

All these researchers specialising in European subjects make up \u201cYuste\u2019s Alumni Network\u201d, set up to enable the exchange of projects and information. This \u201cAlumni Network\u201d, spread across the world\u2019s leading universities and research centres, is inextricably linked to Extremadura, creating a set of nodes to connect the talent that has a link with Extremadura and Yuste, which was and remains one of the places where Europe is analysed, debated and thought about.<\/p>\n

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has just published the doctoral thesis “Cirurgi\u00f5es, pr\u00e1ticas e saberes cir\u00fargicos na Am\u00e9rica portuguesa no s\u00e9culo XVIII”, by Brazilian Monique Palma.
