Journalism and Communication for International Cooperation” in collaboration with the Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences of the University of Extremadura. These will be held on 16 and 17 February in the afternoon at the faculty’s auditorium via streaming. The sessions are directed by journalist Angel Sastre, who was awarded the Medal of Extremadura in 2018. (04/02/2022)

These sessions intend to make the manner in which international conflicts are tackled from the standpoint of communication and journalism known, highlighting the importance of the facts, on the one hand, and the relevance of contrasting information, on the other, in order to carry out a deep analysis in perspective so as to prevent the trivialisation and manipulation of complex situations.

It is with this objective that journalists, reporters, photojournalists, war correspondents, and investigative journalism professionals will bring their personal and professional experience forward on how accounts are shaped and how information is transmitted in order to analyse current events, such as the COVID pandemic, climate emergencies, refugee crises, and the situation in countries where there are armed, political or social conflicts. The difficulties and personal risks that these professionals come across with when trying to access first-hand information in contexts that are a menace to human rights will also be dealt with.

All these subjects will be dealt with by the following professionals among others: Agus Morales, director of the magazine 5W; Pablo Tosco, the award-winner photojournalist of the 1st World Press Photo 2021 in the category of Contemporary Issues; El País correspondent in the Middle East from 2008 to 2021 and author of the book Una bala para todas, Natalia Sancha; Director-General of the porCausa Foundation, Lucila Rodríguez-Alarcón; El País correspondent in Mexico, Jacobo García; El Mundo correspondent in Colombia, Salud Hernández-Mora; the Agencia EFE correspondent in Venezuela, Gonzalo Domínguez.

The sessions will also include a table including three young journalists from Extremadura who will present the difficulties they face when trying to find opportunities for them to carry out their projects and how they manage to pull them off.

These professionals are Roberto Palomo, a freelance reporter who mainly works for El País; the journalist specialised in international cooperation and human rights, Silvia Arjona, who currently lives in Colombia, and the photographer Blanca González, who is the author of the exhibitions “Gitanas de Badajoz” and “Mi familia”, among others.

This activity is part of the AEXCID’s actions to promote the resolution of conflicts and the construction of peace as part of its competences in the Regional Government of Extremadura.
The sessions “Revealing Conflicts. Journalism and Communication for International Cooperation” is a project of the Extremaduran Agency for International Development Cooperation (AEXCID) which is carried out by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation within its “Aula Abierta” programme.

For further information: https://www.fundacionyuste.org/en/revealing-conflicts-journalism-and-communication-for-international-cooperation-sessions/
Registration: https://bit.ly/3HIAF7D
Video presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGS147Lj95E

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_post_nav in_same_term=”on” prev_text=”VER NOTICIA ANTERIOR” next_text=”VER NOTICIA SIGUIENTE” admin_label=”← NAVEGACION POR NOTICIAS →” _builder_version=”3.0.85″ custom_margin=”||3%|”][/et_pb_post_nav][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has just published the doctoral thesis “Cirurgiões, práticas e saberes cirúrgicos na América portuguesa no século XVIII”, by Brazilian Monique Palma.
