<\/a>The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, the University of Extremadura (UEx) and the Centre for Ibero-American Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University are holding the II International Congress \u201cRelations Between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe: A Meeting Space\u201d with the collaboration of the Municipality of Guadalupe and the Franciscan Community. The event will take place at the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe on 23, 24 and 25 March. <\/strong>(22\/03\/2022)<\/p>\nThe Spanish former Prime Minister, Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez, will give the keynote speech.<\/p>\n
The President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fern\u00e1ndez Vara,; the rectors of the University of Extremadura and the Rey Juan Carlos University, Antonio Hidalgo Garc\u00eda and Javier Ramos, respectively; the mayor of Guadalupe, Felipe S\u00e1nchez Barba; and the Guardian and Custodian of the Royal Monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Guadalupe, Friar Guillermo Cerrato Chamizo, will be in charge of the opening of the congress.<\/p>\n
The opening speech will be given by the former Spanish Prime Minister and Carlos V European Award in 2000, Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez M\u00e1rquez, under the title \u201cDemocracy: Contributions and Risks in a European Perspective\u201d.<\/p>\n
Some of the objectives of this congress is to deepen the interaction that has been taking place over five centuries between America and Europe. It also seeks to prioritise the research that studies this relationship, which has been shaping a historical reality in both spaces, confirmed in a cultural and material heritage that is common in many cases. This edition focuses on the cultural aspects of the relationship between the two regions; on aspects related to democracy, the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking, as well as further progress in studies on migratory flows.<\/p>\n
The international character of the congress is reflected in the nationalities of the speakers and young researchers, PhDs and PhD candidates who have submitted papers and come from different countries in Europe and Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Mexico, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Uruguay and Venezuela.<\/p>\n
Another purpose of the congress is to increase the debate between the two regions by highlighting, above all, the participation of young researchers in the fields of International Relations and the History of Ibero-America as a space for the deep relations between the two regions.<\/p>\n
Thirty papers have been selected, 17 of which will be presented by their authors during the Congress and the rest will be published on Yuste Foundation\u2019s YouTube channel for consultation.<\/p>\n
RESEARCH PRIZE TO IBERO-AMERICAN DOCTORAL THESES<\/strong><\/p>\n In addition to the conferences and papers, the congress is the stage chosen by Yuste Foundation to award the Research Prize to Latin American Doctoral Theses, which has been won by the Mexican researcher Clemente Cruz Peralta for his work \u201cEl elegido inesperado, Pedro Jos\u00e9 de Fonte, ultimo arzobispo de la Nueva Espa\u00f1a\u201d in this edition.<\/p>\n The Organising Committee of the congress is directed by C\u00e1stor D\u00edaz Barrado and coordinated by the professor American of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Extremadura, Sigfrido V\u00e1zquez Cienfuegos, and by the Professor of Public International Law and International Relations of the Rey Juan Carlos University, Sagrario Mor\u00e1n Blanco.<\/p>\n This congress is included in the activities of the action plan of the event of exceptional public interest known as the \u201cHoly Year of Guadalupe 2022\u201d.<\/p>\n
