The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation was awarded the \u201cCapit\u00e1n de Galeones\u201d Award by Puerta de Am\u00e9rica Foundation in Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda. <\/strong>(29\/08\/2022)<\/p>\n

Among other reasons, this foundation\u2019s Board of Trustees awarded the prize to this entity because of the work it has carried out for 30 years in favour of \u201cbuilding bridges of knowledge, understanding and solidarity with Ibero-America, permanently valuing the enormous historical and cultural legacy that unites us on both shores of the Atlantic, enhancing our common history and fostering dialogue and mutual knowledge\u201d.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Yuste Foundation\u2019s \u201ccontribution to European construction\u201d was also valued, as it \u201cserves as a link between EU entities and Spanish citizens, with a special interest in young people\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this sense, when collecting the award during a gala held in the parade ground of the Santiago de Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda Castle, the director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno, stated that prizes like this \u201creaffirm the idea that there is no better investment for the future than getting well-trained young people and for Extremadura to be a reference point as a meeting point between Europe and Ibero-America\u201d.<\/p>\n

The head of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, an entity that celebrates its 30th anniversary, took advantage of this event to recall that Yuste Academy \u201cis not a museum of celebrities, but a nursery that nourishes new generations of Europeans with the culture treasured for centuries, a space in which ideas and knowledge are freely exchanged; an area of intellectual respect in which wisdom and the desire to learn come together on an equal footing\u201d.<\/p>\n

With these awards, Puerta de Am\u00e9rica Foundation intends to acknowledge institutions, personalities or peoples who were involved in the first circumnavigation of the Earth carried out 500 years ago by Juan Sebasti\u00e1n Elcano and Fernando de Magallanes, as well as in the commemoration of the 5th Centenary of this event.<\/p>\n

Puerta de Am\u00e9rica Foundation\u2019s main goal is the preservation, dissemination and development of cultural, historical and artistic values framed in the period of the so-called Carrera de Indias, as well as highlighting the historical relevance of Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda as a port of departure and arrival of transcendent voyages as the first round the world trip of the Magellan-Elcano expedition.<\/p>\n
