a task that falls especially to young people born in the first quarter of the 21st century”. He stated this at the opening of the course “Universal Accessibility, Social inclusion and Leverage for Change towards Equality”, which will be held at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste until Friday and which counts with the collaboration of the University of Extremadura and the General Directorate of Accessibility and centres of the Regional Government of Extremadura. (21/09/2022)

According to the director of the Foundation, each generation has a role in history: those who were born in the first half of the 20th century had the enormous task of rebuilding the world after the two world wars and in the case of Europe, of carrying out the process of European construction. “The work of those of us who were born in the second half of the 20th century has been to build the welfare state and those who were born in this first quarter of the 21st century have to achieve a more inclusive world, because without equality and inclusiveness it is idle to talk about everything else”, he said.

To finish his speech, Moreno Piñero affirmed that although there are architectural barriers, which are the ones we can see because they are physical, “it is the mental ones that must be destroyed through awareness, an objective that we will achieve with the celebration of such courses that reach the whole of society”.

The opening was also attended by the Second Vice President and Regional Minister of Health and Social Services of the Regional Government of Extremadura, José María Vergeles, who welcomed the consolidation of this formative activity within the university environment in collaboration with the Foundation. He also noted that the opening of these sessions coincided with the World Alzheimer’s Day.

The mayor of Cuacos de Yuste, José María Hernández, in turn, recalled that the Monastery of Yuste already had adaptations made to make it accessible for Emperor Charles V and alluded to the various reforms that National Heritage made in 2014 in order to remove architectural barriers and manage to combine history and monument architecture with accessibility for all visitors.

Finally, the rector of the University of Extremadura, Antonio Hidalgo, affirmed that there is an inconsistency between the systems where places are called for university professors and the rights of people with disabilities who want to have access to them. Faced with this problem, he expressed his wish to find a mechanism to achieve equality in accessing the teaching profession.

The rector closed his speech by expressing his satisfaction with the work carried out by Yuste Foundation together with the University and bid farewell wishing the 2023 Campus Yuste courses the best and greatest success.

This is the second edition of the course “Universal Accessibility, Social Inclusion and Leverage for Change towards Equality”. It counts with sign language and the support of the Oficina de Sensibilidad Sensorial (OAX), which is subsidised by the Department of Health and Social Services of the Regional Government of Extremadura.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_post_nav in_same_term=”on” prev_text=”VER NOTICIA ANTERIOR” next_text=”VER NOTICIA SIGUIENTE” admin_label=”← NAVEGACION POR NOTICIAS →” _builder_version=”4.14.8″ custom_margin=”||3%|” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_post_nav][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

The director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno Piñero, claimed the need to achieve “greater equality and accessibility, and a more inclusive world; a task that falls especially to young people born in the first quarter of the 21st century”.
