The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation opened the call for the 16th edition of the Carlos V European Award, which is aimed at rewarding individuals, organisations, projects or initiatives that have contributed to the general knowledge and enhancement of Europe\u2019s cultural, social, scientific and historical values as well as to the process of European construction and integration through their efforts.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(30\/11\/2022)<\/p>\n

Nominations for the Carlos V European Award can be submitted on the proposal of previous winners; members of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste; Spanish embassies in any country in the world; diplomatic representations in Spain from EU Member States; from EFTA countries which are members of the EEA, or from candidate and potential EU candidate countries; institutions, public entities, cultural, scientific, academic or socioeconomic entities, as well as anyone interested from the member countries of the European Union.<\/p>\n

The nominations, which can be submitted in Spanish or English until 20 January 2023, will be formalised by sending the official form published on Yuste Foundation\u2019s website: https:\/\/www.fundacionyuste.org\/en\/the-european-carlos-v-award\/convocatoria-2023\/. It is mandatory to attach an accrediting report of the merits that support them and other documents may be submitted providing relevant data and additional information on the nominations.<\/p>\n

The documentation can be sent via the form, by certified mail, or delivered personally at the headquarters of Yuste Foundation, which is located in the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste, in Cuacos de Yuste (C\u00e1ceres, Spain).<\/p>\n

The Carlos V European Award will be delivered at the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste on the occasion of the celebration of Europe Day in 2023, in an event presided over by His Majesty the King of Spain or by the Member of the Royal Family in whom He delegates.<\/p>\n

The laureates so far have been: Jacques Delors (1995); Wilfried Martens (1998); Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez (2000); Mikhail Gorbachov (2002); Jorge Sampaio (2004); Helmut Kohl (2006); Simone Veil (2008); Javier Solana (2011); Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dur\u00e3o Barroso (2014); Sofia Corradi (2016); Marcelino Oreja Aguirre (2017); Antonio Tajani\u00a0 (2018); the project \u201cCultural Routes of the Council of Europe\u201d (2019), Angela Merkel (2021) and the European Disability Forum (2022).<\/p>\n

European Research and Mobility Grants on European Studies <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Award is also associated with the European Research and Mobility Grants on European Studies for researchers who are preparing a doctoral thesis. The topic of these grants is adapted in each edition depending on the nomination selected to receive the Award. The researchers selected in each edition participate in the Carlos V European Award Doctoral Seminar, which is organised by the Foundation and where they present their work. Yuste Foundation commits to their publication subsequently. To date, more than 100 researchers from across Europe and other countries in the Mediterranean basin and Ibero-America have benefited from these grants.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Yuste Alumni Network<\/strong><\/p>\n

All of these researchers specialising in European issues make up Yuste\u2019s Euro-Ibero-American Alumni Network, which was set up to enable the exchange of projects and information between its members and encourage analysis and reflection on current issues related to Europe and Ibero-America from a multidisciplinary perspective. This Alumni Network, which is spread over the world\u2019s leading universities and research centres, is inextricably linked to Extremadura. In this manner, a set of nodes has been created in order to connect the talent that has a link with Extremadura and an umbilical cord with Yuste, which was and remains one of the places from which Europe is thought about.<\/p>\n
