<\/a>The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation continues with its objective to further deepen knowledge of the construction of the European project and the values which it is based on; to this end, it schedules the course \u201cThe Protection of Common Values in the European Union\u201d from 11 to 13 July. <\/strong>(08\/07\/2023)<\/p>\nThe current crisis facing Europe with Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine shows that cultural integration under the common values of the EU needs effective legal guarantees and precise protection instruments to preserve the achievements of the integration process, of threats, and of authoritarianism. The energy and economic crisis, the cultural challenges and the need to preserve the values of democracy and the principles of unity and diversity of a global society in the current international and European scenario, justify the analysis and debate on the mechanisms of protection of values which the EU is based on.<\/p>\n
The course aims to create a forum for dialogue, reflection and debate between academia, political actors, stakeholders, students, professionals and society at large in order to improve knowledge of the EU\u2019s common value as well as the quality of multidisciplinary vocational training and to promote the EU\u2019s vision, not only as an area of economic and political integration, but also cultural, which shares the core values of democracy, the social rule of law and the separation of powers as opposed to authoritarian and illiberal regimes.<\/p>\n
The course will be taking place within the framework of the Jean Monnet EUCOMMIT Module, whose main objective is to promote the study of the common values of the European Union and their protection as a way of promoting excellence in teaching and research in order to improve the social and civic engagement of students and the participation of society in democratic life.<\/p>\n
The course \u201cThe Protection of Common Values in the European Union\u201d, which will be directed by the professors of Constitutional Law of the University of Extremadura, Marcos Criado de Diego and Lorena Chano Rega\u00f1a, will be held at the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste, where students have the opportunity to listen to and participate in the presentations and round tables and share experiences with leading figures from the European academic world. Speakers will include Jean Monnet Professor \u201cad personam\u201d and Vice-President of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, Teresa Freixes Sanjuan; the acting head of the European Commission Representation in Spain, Lucas Gonz\u00e1lez Ojeda; the sociologist and associate researcher of the Complutense Institute for International Studies and special adviser to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Erika Rodr\u00edguez Pinz\u00f3n; the president of Euroam\u00e9rica Foundation and member of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste, Ram\u00f3n J\u00e1uregui Atondo; the magistrate and contact point of the European Judicial Network in criminal matters, Ignacio Gonz\u00e1lez Vega; the head of unit of the DG I.D.E.A. (Inspire, Debate, Engage and Accelerate Action) \u00beEuropean Commission President Ursula von der Leyen\u2019s Internal Advisory Centre\u00be Sonia Vila; the professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Seville and member of the Scientific Council of the Elcano Royal Institute, Ana Carmona Contreras; the professor of European Integration at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies, academic of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and director of the Integral European Union Programme of Deusto Business School, Susana del R\u00edo; the professor of Political Science at the Complutense University of Madrid and member of Yuste\u2019s Euro-Ibero-American Alumni Network, Ruth Ferrero Turri\u00f3n; and the president of the Extremaduran Council of the European Movement and member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2014, Alejandro Cercas Alonso.<\/p>\n
In addition, Campus Yuste adds an online version to its in-person format and thus opens a window to the world with the live broadcasting of all its courses through its YouTube channel. People from Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Nicaragua and Portugal have registered in the course \u201cThe Protection of Common Values in the European Union\u201d.<\/p>\n
This course, which is included in Yuste Foundation\u2019s training programme Campus Yuste, is part of the University of Extremadura\u2019s International Summer Courses and is sponsored by MAFRESA. It counts with the collaboration of the Regional Government of Extremadura, National Heritage and the Provincial Councils of C\u00e1ceres and Badajoz.<\/p>\n
