Annual course, with numerous editions celebrated, focusing on the figure and era of Emperor Charles V. In 2024, we will dedicate the course to the conflicts in the worlds of Charles V and the enemies of the Empire.<\/p>\n

The 16th<\/sup> century was a period of profound transformation and complexity in the geopolitical landscape, characterised by a convergence of factors that shaped the interactions of European powers and their opponents worldwide.<\/p>\n

While Charles V constantly dreamed of peace in Europe, with a united Europe and a strong empire, he faced numerous challenges, and his dream was constantly shaken by major conflicts.<\/p>\n

The reign of Charles V was marked by a complex political and religious dynamic, and he had to navigate conflicts with both external powers and internal challenges stemming from the religious and social transformations of the time. Highlights include the revolution in Ghent, a city under the emperor\u2019s rule that experienced uprisings and rebellions; tensions between the Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy, which exerted significant political and religious influence in Europe; conflicts for supremacy in the Adriatic between Venice, the Emperor, and the Turks, a strategically important area in terms of commerce and military power; and the conquest of vast territories in America, not without fierce resistance from local indigenous populations.<\/p>\n

This complex and conflict-ridden political and religious dynamic had evident and varied manifestations in the literary and artistic spheres, as well as in teaching and learning in classrooms and in the person of the emperor himself.<\/p>\n

All these factors shaped the course of history and laid the groundwork for the ongoing transformation of global affairs in subsequent centuries.<\/p>\n
