The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI), the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador, the Metropolitan Institute of Heritage of Quito, the Secretariat of Culture of Quito, the Autonomous University of Zacatecas in Mexico, and the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EICR), within the framework of the ADELANTE 2 Programme for Triangular Cooperation between the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean, have organised the \u201cInternational Congress on Cultural Routes and Itineraries for the Development of Territories\u201d, which will be held from May 28th to 30th at the San Francisco cultural complex in C\u00e1ceres and in the region of La Vera, located in northern C\u00e1ceres. <\/strong>(25\/05\/2024).<\/p>\n

The aim of this congress, which has registered nearly 150 people both in person and online from Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay, is to share knowledge and exchange experiences regarding cultural routes and itineraries as tools for territorial development based on the enhancement of heritage and sustainable tourism.<\/p>\n

The inauguration of the \u201cInternational Congress on Cultural Routes and Itineraries for the Development of Territories\u201d will be led by the director general of External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura and member of Yuste Foundation\u2019s Board of Trustees, Pablo Hurtado; the secretary general of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) and trustee of Yuste Foundation, Mariano Jabonero; the president of the Provincial Council of C\u00e1ceres, Miguel \u00c1ngel Morales; the director of the European Institute of Cultural Routes, Stefano Dominioni; the director general of Culture of the Organization of Ibero-American States, Raphael Callou; the head of unit for South America and Regional Operations of the European Commission, Olivier Luyckx; and the undersecretary of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador, Mar\u00eda Esterlina Quinatoa.<\/p>\n

Additionally, there will be contributions from experts, specialists, and professionals related to various European and Ibero-American routes, such as the Route of Cultural Actions in the municipality of Quito, the Route of Emperor Charles V, the Silver Route (Ruta V\u00eda de la Plata), the Cocoa Origin Route, and the La Florida-Tulipe Route, the latter two being from Ecuador.<\/p>\n

As for the congress methodology, it consists of panels presenting the results of the Triangular Cooperation Initiative; dialogue tables for exchanging reflections, knowledge, and experiences related to the different topics of the course; and exchanges that will serve as meeting spaces between experts, actors, and professionals with experience in the routes.<\/p>\n

The last day of the congress includes a trip to the region of La Vera to visit some projects related to the Routes of Emperor Charles V, recognised as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. In this regard, a visit is scheduled to the Paprika Museum and the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste, which recently received the European Heritage Label; the German Cemetery and the Malaria Interpretation Museum in Losar de La Vera, which is part of the Routes of Charles V\u2019s Tourist Product Club.<\/p>\n

This programme of activities is supported by the Provincial Council of C\u00e1ceres, the City Council of C\u00e1ceres, the Charles V Routes, the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Compostela Group of Universities, the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain, the Ministry of Culture of Peru, and the National Secretariat of Tourism of Paraguay.<\/p>\n

The Triangular Cooperation Initiative formed within the framework of the ADELANTE Window 2023 aims to leverage the knowledge of offering entities of the Alliance on cultural routes and itineraries to transfer their model, which is characterised by the enhancement of heritage, to contribute to job creation and the promotion of sustainable development in territories through tourism.<\/p>\n
