In addition to this problem, the emperor had to navigate both conflicts with external powers and internal challenges arising from the religious and social transformations of the time.

Some of these challenges included the Ghent revolution, a city under the emperor’s control that experienced uprisings and rebellions; the tensions between the Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy, which exerted significant political and religious influence in Europe; the conflicts for supremacy in the Adriatic between Venice, the emperor, and the Turks, a strategic area in commercial and military terms; and the conquest of vast territories in America, not without fierce resistance from the local indigenous populations.

In addition to addressing these conflicts, experts and professors will explain how these issues manifested in the literary and artistic realms, as well as in teaching and learning in the classrooms and in the emperor’s own life.

Among the speakers are Jaime Contreras Contreras, emeritus professor of Modern History at the University of Alcalá; Mirjana Polic Bopic, president of the National Council for Science, Higher Education, and Technological Development of Croatia; José de la Puente Brunke, professor of American History at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima; and the director of the CEU Elcano International Chair at the CEU San Pablo University, among other experts and professors.

The course has 80 students attending both in-person and online from Belgium, Brazil, China, Ivory Coast, Spain, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, and the Dominican Republic. It is directed by Rosa Mª Martínez de Codes, full professor of American History at the Complutense University of Madrid, and César Chaparro Gómez, PhD from the University of Extremadura.

Among the collaborating institutions are the European Routes of Emperor Charles V.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_post_nav in_same_term=”on” prev_text=”VER NOTICIA ANTERIOR” next_text=”VER NOTICIA SIGUIENTE” admin_label=”← NAVEGACION POR NOTICIAS →” _builder_version=”4.19.5″ custom_margin=”||3%|” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_post_nav][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has organised the course “Conflicts in the Worlds of Charles V: The Enemies of the Empire”, which will be held from July 9 to 11 at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste, the Foundation’s headquarters, as part of the Campus Yuste training programme and within the 25th edition of the University of Extremadura’s International Summer/Autumn Courses.

[190,191
303
