<\/a>Aiming to analyse the implementation of strategies that contribute to the construction of peaceful, supportive, and egalitarian societies, and to promote the creation of alliances that can address the current levels of uncertainty facing Europe and Ibero-America, the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, along with the EU-LAC Foundation, organised the course \u201cEuropean Union-Latin America and the Caribbean Relations: New Times and Renewed Commitments\u201d to be held from the 23rd to the 25th July at the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste. This course concludes the Campus Yuste training programme framed within the 25th International Summer\/Autumn Courses of the University of Extremadura.<\/strong> (22\/07\/2024).<\/p>\nThe EU-CELAC Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Brussels in July 2023 set a new agenda for work and cooperation between both regions to strengthen their relations and jointly tackle major global challenges such as the green transition, the digital transition, and the social transition, among others.<\/p>\n
The course is based on the premise that political relations between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean are essential, and that multilateralism is the only formula capable of addressing current, future, and global challenges, such as the instability created by the war in Europe and the Middle East, and the instability of democracies in several Latin American countries, caused by insecurity from transnational organised crime and corruption.<\/p>\n
Among the speakers are the former president of Mexico (2006-2012), Felipe Calder\u00f3n Hinojosa; the former minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru (2006-2011) and former ambassador to Spain (2016-2018), Jos\u00e9 Antonio Garc\u00eda Bela\u00fande; the professor of Politics and Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico and the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, H\u00e9ctor Luis Acevedo; the director of International Relations at the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), Cristina Manzano; the director of the Philosophy Department at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Antonio Ramos; the researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute and professor of American History at UNED, Carlos Malamud; the coordinator of Interinstitutional Relations at the EU-LAC Foundation, Diego Dur\u00e1n; and the European representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, Pablo Chiesa.<\/p>\n
The course is held in collaboration with the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), Euroam\u00e9rica Foundation, the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), and the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
