The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has opened the application period for ten European Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies, entitled the \u201cCarlos V European Award \u2013 European Disability Forum\u201d, each with an individual award of 2,500 euros. <\/strong>(05\/08\/2025)<\/p>\n

The focus of the call is on the topic \u201cUnited in diversity: The impact of the European Union on the lives of people with disabilities\u201d, taking into account aspects such as the European Union\u2019s contribution to the inclusion and fulfilment of the rights of people with disabilities; the role of European institutions and bodies in the development of initiatives and policies aimed at promoting, guaranteeing, and strengthening the rights of people with disabilities; and the role of the European disability movement in advocating for and contributing to a more inclusive Union for people with disabilities, among other topics.<\/p>\n

Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral programme and be at the thesis preparation stage on a topic related to the purpose and focus established in the call; must not have previously received one of these grants; and must demonstrate proficiency in English or Spanish at a level equal to or higher than B2 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).<\/p>\n

The grant awarding process will be competitive. Applications will be evaluated based on a scoring system conducted by a jury that will consider objective merits as well as the quality and relevance of the proposals submitted.<\/p>\n

The application period is open from the day after its publication in the Official Journal of Extremadura until 19 September.<\/p>\n

European Grants<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u201cCarlos V European Award\u201d European Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies focus on European history, memory, and integration, taking as their framework and priority the profile of the person, institution, project, or initiative honoured in each edition, with whom the research topic and priorities are defined from a multidisciplinary perspective.<\/p>\n

Thus, in the 15th edition, the jury of the Carlos V European Award awarded the prize to the European Disability Forum, a European NGO bringing together organisations representing 100 million people with disabilities and their families throughout Europe. According to the jury\u2019s decision, at the time of receiving the award, the EDF had completed 25 years \u201cdefending the rights of persons with disabilities and promoting their inclusion, caring for those who need it most and who suffer multiple discrimination for having different capacities, valuing their dignity as people and the great value they are to society. Through its work, the EDF promotes a more inclusive Europe and a more social, just and egalitarian Europe, and contributes to the process of European integration, to the values that the European Union defends and to ensuring that all citizens can live together in this common area on an equal footing and without being discriminated against because of their social capacities. It thus favours a more humane Europe that focuses on the well-being of its citizens, providing strong legal frameworks to defend inclusion, accessibility, freedom of movement, independent life, dignity, non-discrimination, active and effective participation in society, respect for difference as part of human diversity and other fundamental rights and freedoms\u201d.<\/p>\n

To date, more than 130 researchers from various European Union countries and others such as Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Morocco, Mexico, Peru, Russia and Ukraine have benefited from these grants.<\/p>\n
