Germana de Foix, queen consort of Arag\u00f3n and viceroy of Valencia, will be the central figure in the musical repertoire performed by the ensemble Piacere Dei Traversi as part of the Emperor\u2019s Concert series, taking place on Saturday, 27 September, at 1 pm, at the Monastery of San Jer\u00f3nimo de Yuste. <\/strong>(23\/09\/2025)<\/p>\n

The concert \u201cEl mecenazgo de Germana de Foix, segunda esposa de Fernando el Cat\u00f3lico\u201d, organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and Patrimonio Nacional, will offer a historical journey through the queen\u2019s life, following a narrative thread built through the recitation of excerpts from contemporary chronicles. The programme includes pieces from the main songbooks and musical manuscripts associated with Germana and the various figures who accompanied her throughout her life.<\/p>\n

The life of the monarch was marked by three marriages. The first, to Ferdinand the Catholic, whom she married at the age of 18 following the death of Isabella the Catholic; she later wed Johann of Brandenburg-Ansbach, and finally Ferdinand of Arag\u00f3n, duke of Calabria, with whom she experienced her most flourishing period of cultural patronage during the final stage of the so-called \u201cValencian Golden Age\u201d. Beyond her official marriages, Germana de Foix maintained a romantic liaison with a young Charles V, who had just arrived in Spain.<\/p>\n

Musical Ensemble<\/strong><\/p>\n

Piacere Dei Traversi is a group comprising the soprano Carmen Botella and Laura Palomar, Marisa Esparza, and Mercedes Romaguera, who together form a consort of Renaissance transverse flutes. Since its founding in 2011, the ensemble has performed at numerous venues across Spain, notably at the Pe\u00f1\u00edscola International Early Music Festival and the Palau de la M\u00fasica in Valencia.<\/p>\n

It was awarded best Renaissance music ensemble 2021 by the Spanish Association of Early Music Groups.<\/p>\n

Admission to the concert will be free until full capacity is reached.<\/p>\n
