They have been awarded a Charles V European Award – Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dur\u00e3o Barroso European Research and Mobility Grant for European studies.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nThe European Academy of Yuste Foundation will host the seminar \u201cHistory, memory and European integration from the perspective of the European Union\u00b4s (EU) transatlantic relations\u201d next Monday 26 January. The 10 selected researchers taking part in the seminar are students from Germany, Belgium, Spain, Brazil and Cuba currently undertaking doctoral studies at the Universities of Li\u00e8ge (Belgium), Florence (Italy), Santiago de Compostela, Granada, Salamanca, Seville, L\u00e9rida and Navarre. There are two Extremadurans among the selected candidates.<\/p>\n

The seminar, which will be held from 26-28 January, is directed by Enrique Moradiellos, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Extremadura, and Michel Dumoulin, Jean Monnet Chair of Contemporary European History at the Catholic University of Louvain.<\/p>\n

Topics to be covered include pro-European stances among those living in exile, nationalisms, Spanish as a bridge between the EU and Latin America, the EU\u00b4s relations with Brazil and Mercosur, globalization, and trade and investment between both continents.<\/p>\n

The Charles V European Award – Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dur\u00e3o Barroso grant scheme application period opened on 5 May and closed on 30 June. Candidates from eight EU and Latin American countries submitted a total of 21 papers.<\/p>\n

Selected candidates will become part of the \u201cYuste Alumni\u201d network, which brings together over 70 researchers from all over the world.<\/p>\n

Context<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each edition of the Charles V European Award includes the provision of European research and mobility grants for European studies named after the award-winner, the organization of a doctoral seminar on multi-disciplinary contemporary European studies, and the publication of the presented papers by the prestigious Peter Lang academic publishing group, with the support ofwith the Socio Economic Governance and European Identity (SEGEI) research network, the University of Extremadura and the academic cooperation of the Jean Monnet Chair of Contemporary European History from the Catholic University of Louvain.<\/p>\n
