Enrique Barrasa presented the project today, which is now in its sixth year and has engaged 36 high schools in Extremadura <\/em><\/p>\n

\"DSC_0078\"The European Academy of Yuste Foundation and the Navalmoral de la Mata Town Council launched the sixth edition of the Extremadura high school contest to prevent drug abuse among Extremaduran adolescents during their free time.<\/p>\n

The Foundation\u00b4s Director Enrique Barrasa S\u00e1nchez highlighted during the launch that the Foundation \u201cis committed to its local community through different projects which illustrate the spirit of service that defines a public foundation such as ours\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr.Barrasa explained that through this cooperation the European Academy of Yuste Foundation \u201cdemonstrates its citizenship-oriented approach, confronting challenges that affect the day-to-day lives of Extremaduran citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n

The contest, which is now in its sixth year, has managed to engage 36 regional high schools, directly reaching over 900 students and a further 1,200 indirectly.<\/p>\n

Participants in this year\u00b4s edition include: the Arroyo Harnina high school in Almendralejo, the Castelar high school in Badajoz, and the Extremadura high school in Montijo, all of which are located in the province of Badajoz; and the Jaranda high school in Jarandilla de la Vera, the Turgalium high school in Trujillo and the NuestraSe\u00f1ora de Guadalupe school in Navalmoral de la Mata, all located in the province of Caceres.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the Councillor for Social Affairs Isabel Garc\u00eda Noblejas gave an overview of the contest and explained how it works: \u201cThe contest is targeted at high school sophomore students, who make an oral presentation to their classmates from other high schools in the province\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Badajoz provincial semi-final will take place on 6 March in Almendralejo and the Caceres provincial semi-final will take place in Navalmoral de la Mata on 13 March. The final is set to be held in May.<\/p>\n

According to Mr.Barrasa, the program is \u201cespecially attractive for schools and strudents\u201d because it requires students and tutors to seek information and inform themselves\u00a0 about drugs, drug dependence, the risks of drug abuse, the reasons for drug abuse and abstention,\u00a0 the short and long-term consequences of drug abuse, as well as making proposals to prevent drug abuse.<\/p>\n

The winning high school will win a trip for 30 people to the Warner Bros park in Madrid and the runner-up will win a trip for 30 to the Lusiberia park in Badajoz.<\/p>\n

Support from the Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n

This program, founded in 2006 as a municipal project, began to grow at a regional level with the cooperation of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, which supports the project as part of its commitment to the local community, through initiatives such as the Emperor Charles V Route or the Entrepreneurial Program for Tobacco Growers.<\/p>\n
