Challenges and proposals for religious coexistence, has stressed that the underlying idea which has driven all the speakers’ interventions is that inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue can enhance \u201crespect for human dignity\u201d and that, upon this basis, \u201cwe can build and improve our relationships with others\u201d.<\/p>\n

In this sense, the academic director stated that the religious phenomenon is a rather neglected topic in Europe, due to the \u201cdiversity and plurality of our society\u201d. She added that all member States \u201cmust understand the sociological plurality of our society\u201d, which poses a challenge involving \u201cplacing emphasis on the role played by religion in European integration\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mart\u00ednez de Codes indicated that in our current-day secularized society, in which religious values are important pillars of the educational and sociological spheres, \u201cknowing and respecting others and talking to them\u201d are matters common to all the participants.<\/p>\n

The course titled Religion in 21st-century Europe. Challenges and proposals for religious coexistence brings to an end the Campus Yuste program, conducted by the Foundation in partnership with the University of Extremadura. For three days, grant holders from universities in Extremadura, Seville, Granada, Salamanca, C\u00f3rdoba, Alicante and from the Jaume I University, the Complutense University of Madrid, the King Juan Carlos University and the National University of Distance Education have received training from experts, representatives from the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, professors and representatives of different religious confessions, who have put forward their proposals for peaceful coexistence and its needs within the common democratic framework existing in Spain and Europe.<\/p>\n

The course has been sponsored by the Swiss Henry Dunat University College Foundation and the OIDEL NGO, which promotes the right to education and freedom in partnership with the United Nations, UNESCO and the Council of Europe.<\/p>\n

Campus Yuste 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

Campus Yuste is an event created by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation for its educational activities, based on encouraging debate and the reflection of students, researchers and professionals on European affairs.<\/p>\n

The courses held together with the University of Extremadura and the Pontifical University of Salamanca have covered a wide range of subjects, such as adaptation to the new labour markets from a European perspective, the Christian roots of Europe, the political facet of Emperor Charles V, the challenges for the European Union from the perspective of the geopolitics of energy, the debate on new European citizenship and the proposal for federalism as a possible form of organization for a more cohesive Europe.<\/p>\n
