The year 1516 was especially important because several events took place marking the beginning of an era and a new course in the history of Spain, Europe and the World. The year 1516 was especially important because several events took place marking the beginning of an era and a new course in the history of Spain, Europe and the World. That year, on 23 January, Ferdinand the Catholic, King of Aragon and Castile died in Madrigalejo, a town in the province of Extremadura, having signed the day before his last will and testament. That same year his grandson Charles I would take control of the kingdoms of Spain. This course shall participate in the commemoration events of the Fifth Centenary of the death of Ferdinand the Catholic, addressing a historical epoch in which two worlds come together from three perspectives, first that of Ferdinand the Catholic with that of Charles I, who a few years later, in 1520, would be crowned as Charles V Holy Roman Emperor. This fact is what marks the beginning of the union of two other worlds, such as that of Spain with Europe, and in turn the encounter between the European and Ibero-American worlds, because under the title of Charles I and Charles V, the territories of the Old and New Continent are united historically on both sides of the Atlantic, as the rights to the Indies were also inherited, creating an empire where, as the chronicles say, the sun never sets.<\/p>\n![\"ico_pdf\"](\"https:\/\/www.fundacionyuste.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/ico_pdf.png\")
