Valent\u00edn Fuster Carulla<\/h2>

\u00a0Sill\u00f3n Maim\u00f3nides <\/strong><\/p>

Doctor en Medicina por la Facultad de Barcelona. En la d\u00e9cada de los setenta se traslad\u00f3 a los Estados Unidos donde continu\u00f3 sus estudios. Fue profesor de Medicina y enfermedades cardiovasculares en la Escuela M\u00e9dica Mayo de Minnesota, en la Escuela de Medicina del Hospital Mount Sinai de Nueva York y desde 1991 hasta 1994 fue catedr\u00e1tico de Medicina de la Escuela M\u00e9dica Harvard en Boston, a\u00f1o en que fue nombrado director del Instituto de Cardiolog\u00eda del Hospital Mount Sinai de Nueva York, cargo que ocupa en la actualidad junto con el de vicepresidente del departamento de Medicina de dicho centro. Las contribuciones a la medicina cardiovascular hechas por el doctor Fuster han tenido un enorme impacto en la mejora del tratamiento de pacientes con dolencias card\u00edacas.<\/p>

Quiz\u00e1s la m\u00e1s apreciada haya sido la explicaci\u00f3n de la patogenia en los s\u00edndromes coronarios agudos -infartos agudos de miocardio y angina inestable-, realizando una formidable contribuci\u00f3n a nivel mundial en las especialidades de cardiolog\u00eda y hematolog\u00eda. Mantiene un gran inter\u00e9s por ayudar a la difusi\u00f3n de la ciencia en nuestro pa\u00eds, y es autor de un gran n\u00famero de libros y art\u00edculos sobre sus trabajos e investigaciones.<\/p>

Es el \u00fanico investigador que ha recibido los m\u00e1ximos galardones cient\u00edficos de las cuatro organizaciones de Cardiolog\u00eda m\u00e1s importantes del mundo: la Asociaci\u00f3n Americana del Coraz\u00f3n, el Colegio Americano de Cardiolog\u00eda, la Sociedad Europea de Cardiolog\u00eda y la Sociedad Interamericana de Cardiolog\u00eda.<\/p>

Como cient\u00edfico, es Doctor Honoris Causa de quince universidades y es el autor de dos de los libros de mayor prestigio dedicados a la cardiolog\u00eda cl\u00ednica y de investigaci\u00f3n.<\/p>
