Joaquim Ver\u00edssimo Serr\u00e3o<\/h2>

\u00a0Sill\u00f3n Kant <\/strong><\/p>

Profesor universitario e historiador, natural de Santar\u00e9m (08\/07\/1925). Licenciado en Ciencias Hist\u00f3rico-Filos\u00f3ficas por la Universidad de Coimbra (1948), fue lector de cultura portuguesa en la Universidad de Toulouse (1950-1960), donde obtuvo con distinciones el grado de doctor (1953), doctor\u00e1ndose despu\u00e9s en Ciencias Hist\u00f3ricas en la Universidad de Coimbra (1956). Contratado inicialmente como profesor asistente en la Facultad de Letras de la Universidad de Lisboa (1961), obtuvo en 1965 la plaza de profesor extraordinario en la secci\u00f3n de Historia. Fue director del Centro Cultural Portugu\u00e9s de Par\u00eds (1967-1972), e inmediatamente despu\u00e9s regres\u00f3 a la Facultad de Letras de Lisboa para optar a una plaza de catedr\u00e1tico, obtenida en 1972 por unanimidad. Ejerci\u00f3 el cargo de Rector de la Universidad de Lisboa entre los a\u00f1os 1973-1974, y fue, desde 1980 a 1984, presidente de la \u201cComis\u00e3o Instaladora do Instituto Politecnico de Santar\u00e9m\u201d.

Recibi\u00f3 en 1954 el premio Alexandre Herculano, en 1965 el premio D. Jo\u00e3o II, y, en 1992, el premio Identidade Nacional. Es autor de tres centenas de trabajos de investigaci\u00f3n sobre temas de historia de Portugal entre los siglos XV y XVIII; sobre las relaciones universitarias luso-espa\u00f1olas y luso-francesas; sobre figuras y corrientes de la historiograf\u00eda portuguesa y sobre la historia de Brasil en los siglos XVI y XVII.<\/p>

El doctor Ver\u00edssimo Serr\u00e3o es miembro de la academia de las Ciencias de Lisboa, de la Academia Portuguesa de la Historia (de la que es presidente desde 1975), de la Academia de Marihna, de la Asociaci\u00f3n de Arque\u00f3logos, de la Academia del Mundo Latino de Par\u00eds, del Instituto Hist\u00f3rico y Geogr\u00e1fico de Brasil, de la Academia Brasile\u00f1a de Letras y de las Academias Nacionales de la Historia de Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Puerto Rico, M\u00e9xico y Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, as\u00ed como de otras instituciones cient\u00edficas nacionales y extranjeras, como la Real Academia de la Historia de Espa\u00f1a.<\/p>

Es Doctor Honoris Causa por las Universidades de Montpellier (1974) y Complutense de Madrid (1995). Es Comendador de la Orden do Cruzeiro do Sul, Brasil (1966), Gran Cruz das Ordens de M\u00e9rito Civil (1990) y de Alfonso X el Sabio (1995) de Espa\u00f1a, de la Orden de Andr\u00e9s Bello de Venezuela (1994) y Medalla de Plata de Galiza (1994). En el a\u00f1o 1995 fue distinguido con el premio Pr\u00edncipe de Asturias en Ciencias Sociales.<\/p>
