Ilya Prigogine<\/h2>

F\u00edsico belga, de origen sovi\u00e9tico, naci\u00f3 en Mosc\u00fa. Consigui\u00f3 la nacionalidad belga cuando emigr\u00f3 junto a sus padres cuando contaba con cuatro a\u00f1os de edad. No supo si decantarse por la carrera musical o la educaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, ya que de peque\u00f1o gan\u00f3 un premio como pianista, pero finalmente opt\u00f3 por la ciencia y estudi\u00f3 F\u00edsica y Qu\u00edmica en la Universidad Libre de Bruselas, donde ejerci\u00f3 como profesor de Termodin\u00e1mica.<\/p>

Ha sido catedr\u00e1tico de qu\u00edmica en el Instituto Enrico Fermi de la Universidad de Chicago, de f\u00edsica e ingenier\u00eda qu\u00edmica en la Universidad de Texas y director del Instituto de Mec\u00e1nica Estad\u00edstica y Termodin\u00e1mica. Gracias a \u00e9l podemos comprender por qu\u00e9 existimos y por qu\u00e9 los or\u00edgenes de la vida no fueron coincidencia. Gran fil\u00f3sofo humanista, sus libros se han traducido a muchos idiomas, la mayor\u00eda tratan la termodin\u00e1micay los \u00faltimos pretenden unir ciencia y humanismo.

El principal tema del trabajo cient\u00edfico de Ilya Prigogine ha sido una mejor comprensi\u00f3n del papel del tiempo en las Ciencias F\u00edsicas y en Biolog\u00eda. Ha contribuido significativamente a la comprensi\u00f3n de los procesos irreversibles. Los resultados de su trabajo sobre estructuras disipadoras han estimulado a muchos cient\u00edficos en el mundo entero y pueden tener consecuencias profundas para nuestra comprensi\u00f3n de los sistemas biol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>

La teor\u00eda del Caos, o Teor\u00eda de los Sistemas Din\u00e1micos No Lineales, arranca de las investigaciones del Premio Nobel. \u201cEl caos posibilita la vida y la inteligencia. El cerebro ha sido seleccionado para volverse tan inestable que el menor efecto puede conducir a la formaci\u00f3n de orden\u201d.<\/p>

Ha recibido el honoris causa de varias universidades, entre ellas la UNED de Espa\u00f1a.<\/p>

Cuestion\u00f3 la teor\u00eda del Big Bang sobre el origen del universo. Para \u00e9l, el origen no se puede concebir como una explosi\u00f3n inicial, sino como resultado de la transformaci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda de gravitaci\u00f3n en energ\u00eda de materia. Dio las explicaciones f\u00edsicas relativas a la aparici\u00f3n de las estructuras en que se organiza la materia viva, a las que denomin\u00f3 estructuras disipativas.<\/p>

Recibi\u00f3 galardones como la medalla de oro Svante Arrhenius de la Real Academia de las Ciencias de Suecia en 1969, la medalla Bourke de la Sociedad Qu\u00edmica en 1972, la medalla Cothenius en 1975, la medalla Rumford en 1976 y el premio Nobel de Qu\u00edmica en 1977.<\/p>

Miembro de la Real Academia de ciencias de B\u00e9lgica, de la Academia de Ciencias de Nueva York, de la Academia Rumana, de la Sociedad de Ciencias de Upsala, etc.<\/p>

Se cas\u00f3 en 1961 con Marina Prokopowicz y tuvo dos hijos.<\/p>

Entre sus \u00faltimas responsabilidades internacionales, pueden resaltarse las funciones de consejero especial de la Comunidad Europea en Bruselas, y ser miembro de la Comisi\u00f3n Mundial de Cultura y de Desarrollo de la UNESCO.<\/p>
