Est\u00e1 considerado como una de las voces m\u00e1s representativas de la literatura europea. Autor de novelas, relatos, ensayos, textos teatrales, curador de la obra de Fernando Pessoa, sus libros est\u00e1n traducidos a cuarenta lenguas. Algunas de sus novelas han sido llevadas a la pantalla, o a escena. Ha recibido numerosos premios en Italia, entre los cuales est\u00e1n el Pen Club Italiano, el Premio Campiello y el Premio Viareggio-R\u00e8paci; as\u00ed como, prestigiosos reconocimientos en el exterior como el Premio M\u00e9dicis Etranger, el Premio Europ\u00e9en de la Litt\u00e9rature y el Pemio M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e en Francia; el Aristeoin en Grecia; el Nossack de la Accademia Leibniz en Alemania; el Europ\u00e4ischer Staatspreis en Austria; el Premio Hidalgo y el premio por la libertad de opini\u00f3n \u201cFrancisco Cerecedo\u201d concedido cada a\u00f1o por el Pr\u00edncipe de Asturias en Espa\u00f1a.<\/p>

Enrique por el presidente de la Republica Portuguesa. Ha sido profesor catedr\u00e1tico de la Universidad de Siena y ha ense\u00f1ado en prestigiosas universidades extranjeras. Colabora con peri\u00f3dicos como \u201cCorriere della Sera\u201d, \u201cUnit\u00e0\u201d, \u201cIl manifesto\u201d, \u201cLe Monde\u201d, \u201cEl Pa\u00eds\u201d, \u201cDi\u00e1rio de Not\u00edcias\u201d, \u201cLa Jornada\u201d, \u201cAllegemein Zeitung\u201d, y revistas como \u201cLa Nouvelle Revue Fran\u00e7aise\u201d y \u201cLettre International\u201d. Es miembro fundador del \u201cInternacional Parliament of Writers\u201d. Ha sido propuesto desde el a\u00f1o 2000 por el Pen Club Italiano a la Academia de Suecia como candidato italiano al premio Nobel de Literatura.<\/p>
