Yuste Foundation, Patrimonio Nacional and the Minas de Almadén Organise a Renaissance Music Concert
The Patio of the Royal Miners’ Hospital of San Rafael at the Minas de Almadén–Parque Minero will host a concert by the ensemble Camara Antiqva on 6 September at 8 p.m., which will perform the programme “Concierto de Extremadura al Nuevo Mundo”. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the music of the time of emperor Charles V in a historic setting certified with the European Heritage Label. (03/09/2025)
The concert is divided into three parts, tracing the imaginary journey of a couple leaving their homeland to travel to the New World. For this purpose, pieces have been chosen to showcase Renaissance music by composers from Extremadura, or linked to it, such as Juan Vásquez, Juan de Badajoz, Hernando Franco, Juan del Encina, Mateo Flecha and Gaspar Fernández, among others.
The ensemble Camara Antiqva is made up of performers with long-standing musical experience and extensive training in singing and polyphony. For this project, they have incorporated period instruments, and will also feature the collaboration of the Cáceres-born actor Pablo Mejías. The group has taken part in the Iberian Music Festival of Badajoz, the Sacred Music cycles and Carmina Antiqva in Badajoz, the Iberian Festival of Miranda do Corvo in Portugal, and has performed in the “Concerts of the Emperor” series organised by Yuste Foundation and Patrimonio Nacional, as well as at the 12th Carlos V European Award ceremony, both held at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste.
European Heritage Label
This concert forms part of the IVEPC project (Integrating European Values into Cultural Heritage), which seeks to embed European values in cultural heritage, with a particular focus on sites awarded the European Heritage Label. It does so through strategies and activities designed to strengthen the link between these sites and European values. Among the proposed actions is the exchange of distinctive activities from each certified site, such as this Renaissance music concert, which is traditionally held at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste and is now being brought to the Minas de Almadén–Parque Minero.
This project is co-financed by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme for the European Heritage Label, and is also supported by the EHL-Bureau.
