This publication brings together the main contributions made during the Campus Yuste International Summer Course, “The Protection of the European Union’s Common Values”, held at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste from 11 to 13 July 2023. The course was organised by the Jean Monnet Module EUCOMMIT and the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation (FAEIY), under the academic direction of Dr. Marcos Criado de Diego and Dr. Lorena Chano Regaña, professors in the Constitutional Law Department at the University of Extremadura (UEx).

This issue includes the speeches given in the course “Youth and Europe: The Past, Present and Future of Building a Peaceful Continent”, which was organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and took place from 13 to 15 July 2022 at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste (Cáceres).

Youth has received particular institutional attention in the European area of integration and cooperation since the 1950s. Since then, the situation of the different generations of young people in the EU has evolved and has changed significantly, but two factors of particular importance remain and justify a special attention given to the population that is experiencing this period of life:

1º) the incorporation of citizenship into the full exercise of civic rights occurs around young age and requires a gradual process of explicit accompaniment and adaptation of institutions to their different realities; and 2º) the generation gap between young people and the rest of the population persists and has increased significantly in recent decades, especially in economic, cultural and political terms.

This publication gathers the main presentations given during the summer course “The Future of Europe: Opportunities on Shared and Global Challenges”, which was organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation at the Monastery of Yuste from 12 to 15 July 2021. This course is included within the framework of the Foundation’s Campus Yuste, thus contributing to its annual academic programme, which is devoted to analysing, reflecting on and debating the process of European integration. The course counted with the collaboration of the University of Extremadura, the Regional Committee of the European Movement of Extremadura, the Research Group of Present Time History of the History Department from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Extremadura, and with the support of the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Regional Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz, and National Heritage.

This 19th edition of the journal “Pliegos de Yuste”, entitled “Perspectives and Challenges of the 2030 Agenda: Equality, Sustainable Communities and Strong Institutions for Development, Peace and Achievement of the SDGs”, edited by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, includes the contents of the international summer course, held within the programme CAMPUS YUSTE, with the same title, in collaboration with the Extremaduran Agency for International Development Cooperation (AEXCID), from 26 to 28 June 2019 at the Cultural and Congress Centre in Guadalupe (Cáceres).
