Yuste Foundation organises two Renaissance music concerts within the Emperor’s Cycle of Concerts

The music group Camara Antiqva and the Coro de Cámara de Madrid as well as the group La Danserye will be performing in the church of the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste on 17 and 24 September, respectively. These concerts are included within the Emperor’s Cycle of Concerts, which is organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation together with National Heritage. Both concerts will start at 13:00 pm and have free admission until full capacity is reached. (06/09/2022)

The group Camara Antiqva will perform the programme entitled ‍“España y América: del facistol a la plaza”, which is directed by Manuel Guisado. The programme includes pieces by Spanish authors, such as Tomás Luis de Victoria and Juan del Enzina, and authors from Latin America, such as Henando Francisco (Mexico) and Gaspar Fernandes (Guatemala).

Camara Antiqva’s repertoire incorporates sacred and profane music accompanied by musical instruments from the Renaissance period. The are always played by musicians and teachers from the Official Conservatorium of Music “Hermanos Berzosa” in Cáceres. The music group has participated in different festivals and musical contests in Spain and Portugal, such as the Miranda do Corvo Festival, as well as the Carlos V European Award ceremony when the prize was delivered to the president of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

The Coro de Cámara de Madrid and La Danserye will perform their programme “Josquin Desprez y su herencia en la polifonía del Renacimiento español”, which is directed by Francisco Ruiz Montez, on Saturday, 24 September. The group’s repertoire brings together several works dealing with the figure of Charles I of Spain who, being a prince, received an education in accordance with the humanist currents in which music was an important element, accompanying him during his travels in Europe. The composer Josquin Desprez acquires special relevance in the choir’s musical proposal as well as the works of some of the most representative composers of the Franco-Flemish school.

The Coro de Cámara de Madrid has obtained several awards in competitions and national contests and has participated in cycles musical weeks. Due to its specific repertoire on Charles V, it has performed in various locations that hold some relation with the emperor’s biography, such as Laredo, Toro, Tordesillas, Jarandilla de la Vera and Pasarón de la Vera.

Yuste Foundation began a set of concerts in 1997 with the aim of rooting a musical cycle related to the time of Emperor Charles V in Extremadura and reclaim the European cultural heritage and its history as the main engine of the process of European integration and construction.

The concerts count with the collaboration of the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Provincial Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz and the Cooperation Network of the Routes of Emperor Charles V.
