The Ministry of Defence promotes the development of a security and defence culture so that Spanish society understands, values and identifies with its history and with the solidarity and effective efforts through which the Armed Forces safeguard national interests. Raising awareness of security and defence and fostering a culture of security and defence are priority objectives. Bringing defence closer to citizens is an essential part of the National Security culture, serving as a means of building a society that is committed to and actively engaged in its own security.

The aims of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation include contributing to the promotion of democracy, respect for human rights, the fostering of peace and international understanding, and the comprehensive, harmonious, balanced and sustainable development of all peoples and nations of the world, particularly through the promotion of culture, research, the dissemination of knowledge and social integration.

The Ministry of Defence and the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation have been collaborating for many years in the organisation of joint academic activities, including, in particular, the defence sessions focusing geographically on Europe and Ibero-America.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organises the Security in Ibero-America Sessions under the umbrella of the SCHOOL OF GUADALUPE, with the aim of promoting dialogue on security and defence policy, including new threats and challenges in the international strategic landscape, with particular attention to Europe and Ibero-America, as well as the adaptation of and response by the Armed Forces to new challenges.
