This volume is a faithful reflection of the mission of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste: to be a meeting place between Europe and Ibero-America, between memory and the future, between thoughtful reflection and the fleeting nature of a world that seems to move forward without stopping to understand. Its articles, bringing together all those published in the Newsletter of the Academy of Yuste throughout 2025, explore some of the major questions of our time, such as war, migration, artificial intelligence, the crisis of democracy, European integration, human rights, our shared history and the wounds of memory that remain open.

Its pages bring together the institutional perspective and academic analysis. Some return, painfully, to Auschwitz to remind us of the horror that can be repeated; others look with concern towards Ukraine, Ibero-America, the Mediterranean and Morocco in order to interpret the new balances of power; while others delve into the challenges facing the EU, its promises, its limitations and its necessary commitment to the values that made it possible.

This annual is, ultimately, a mosaic of ideas, warnings, concerns and hopes. It does not seek to deliver definitive judgments, but rather to open paths: where there is noise, to create space for pause; where there is forgetfulness, to rekindle memory; where there is polarisation, to foster dialogue. All of this aims to ensure that Europe and Ibero-America can continue to be spaces called upon to recognise one another, listen to one another and build together a shared horizon of culture, democracy and dignity
